This Friday!

Two Worlds of Cooking: Experimental Approaches to Ancient Pottery Use on Anishinaabeg Ancestral Land (14h30)

Anishinàbe Odjíbikan: Indigenous-Led Archaeology and Changing Perspectives (15h30)

This past Saturday, Anishinàbe Odjìbikan was invited to the STEAM Fair at the University of Ottawa! We brought along our excavation simulator and some artifacts for visitors to explore and learn from. It was amazing to see so many people curious about the work we do.

We had an incredible excursion yesterday! Pierre Desrosiers led the way on a few archaeological site he'd worked on previously. It was a fantastic day for our Odjibikan participants

Last Month Anishinabe Odjibikan stood alongside Mushkegowuk youth at Parliament Hill to raise our voices against Ontario Bill 5.

This legislation is dangerous because it:
- Weakens consultation with First Nations on development projects
- Creates loopholes for developers to bypass environmental and heritage protections
- Puts sacred burial grounds, archaeological sites, and cultural heritage at risk of desecration

By pushing Bill 5 forward without proper Indigenous consultation, the government continues a long pattern of erasure and disregard for our Nations. We are proud to stand with Mushkegowuk youth and all First Nations fighting to protect our heritage, land and our future generations.

Wrapping up site this week! Big thanks to our amazing team for their hard work this summer. As we finalize measurements and backfill, we'll also be marking the site's closure with a ceremony once the ground is filled and we're all set to wrap things up.🪏

Week 2! We've opened square units in the field and started digging test pits, finding some chert fragments so far, hopefully more to come 😊

We kicked off our 2025 field work season today! We began by opening the site in a good way, giving thanks to the land, establishing our baseline, and mastering the theodolite with guidance from Dr. Pierre Desrosiers. Carleton student Emma joined us, lending a hand with our field work! 😊
