This is America: returning to work 6 weeks after giving birth 😵💫. That alone is stressful. If you’re a breastfeeding mama and need tips on pumping at work, this post is for you 👇🏼.

Myth of the day: Breastmilk is only good for one year🤡….
Facts: The longer you bf the more it benefits both mom and child🫶🏼.
For example for mom it can lower the risk of cervical cancer, breast cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
For child it still provides nutrition, comfort, and protects from illness.
Don’t let anyone shame you for continuing to breastfeed your child pass the age of one. It’s still super beneficial for you and your child. These are evidence based facts. Don’t go by what people think is acceptable to them.

Breastfeeding can be hard but here are 3 ways you can survive the first week:
1️⃣ Get informed. Taking a prenatal breastfeeding class will teach you so much about hunger cues, latch positions and how to use a pump. Ideally you should take it before baby arrives.
2️⃣ Skin to skin. Evidence has shown that skin to skin increases breastfeeding initiation and exclusive breastfeeding. If baby is crying skin to skin will calm baby down. Try it out 🫶🏼
3️⃣ Get support. Having a good support team is everything. The first week of breastfeeding will be a learning curve but you want to make sure you are going on the right track, so please contact and get advice from a lactation counselor. Anything that has to do with latching, how to manage breastmilk, or pumping can be answered by a lactation counselor.
If you want a full breakdown on what a breastfeeding class would look like, just send me a message, I’d be happy to explain 🤗🤱🏻

August is breastfeeding awareness month 🤱🏻 so here’s my little sweet moment with my love bug 🥰. I wish I could say the second time I didn’t have any problems breastfeeding. Although it was easier then the first time, it still came with its challenges. Everyone’s journey is different and whatever that may be for you, you’re still amazing 🫶🏼.

May 5th was International midwife day! I’m a couple days late but I wanted to give a shout out to my midwife Margaret, who delivered both my babies 🥰 She is the sweetest and always made me feel safe and calm. Gave me Ice cream my second time delivering so I could relax 😂

Probably one of the most popular questions if you are breastfeeding/chest feeding. It’s hard to know exactly how much baby is taking in, if you can’t see how much milk baby is drinking. A good rule of thumb is to count how many wet & dirty diapers baby has. On day one, baby should have at least one wet/dirty diaper. By day 4 it should be 3 or 4 wet/dirty diapers. A content and relaxed baby after a feed is also a good sign that baby is getting enough. Remember newborns need to be nursing at least 8-12 time per 24hr period, so that they can get the nutrients they need and time to practice a good latch. We go over all of this and more in my lactation education class. What to expect in the first few weeks of life and what to look out for. Want to feel prepared and ready before? You can go ahead and book an appointment with me 🤗
