Henry Larsen Elementary School Council

Ready… Set… READ! Over the next 15 days, encourage your reader to track and meet their individual reading goals through this fun initiative.

As some of you may know, a sizeable number of Henry Larsen students will be moving in September to the new OCDSB school being built in our community. As you can imagine, opening a school from scratch is no small feat, and one of the most costly pieces is establishing a well-stocked library. That’s why, to help set our students up for success, 50% of the proceeds from this year’s Read-a-Thon will go toward building the new school’s library. A welcoming library will help students stay connected to literacy while also serving as a meaningful parting gift from the Henry Larsen community as they continue their learning journey in a new space.

To entice participation in this year's events, School Council will be supporting not one, not two, but THREE pizza party prizes for our classes based on age groupings. Promote and celebrate literacy at our school by getting your SHELF and your student involved.

Check your kiddo’s bag for the tracking sheet and schedule some extra reading into your day in the month of April!

To prepare for the opening of the new East Urban Community Elementary school, the OCDSB must establish a boundary, define program offerings, and determine the initial grade configuration. They are seeking feedback on these topics from the community schools and the broader public.

The public meeting for the new school will take place on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 (7:00 to 9:00 pm) in the Cafeteria at Sir Wilfrid Laurier SS (1515 Tenth Line Road).

East Urban Community Elementary School Study We are opening a New East Urban Community Elementary School in September 2026. This study will determine the school's opening grade structure, programs, and boundary.
