Artificial Intelligence is becoming synonymous with online technology, with AI add-ons and "helpers" now available on nearly every large-scale website, app, and device. The idea is that these additions help simplify our lives. But what if you belong to a demographic that AI simplifies down to pop-culture stereotypes? One of the dangers of using AI to generate media is that it lacks nuance and the capacity to differentiate between true examples of culture and simplified portrayals for film or television. So remember: when working on an assignment, presentation, or social media post, never use Generative AI for photos of Indigenous peoples, regalia, or cultural materials!
