Today, we commemorate Tamil Eelam Women’s Uprising Day, a day dedicated to remembering the courage, sacrifices, and resilience of the women who played a significant role in the struggle for Tamil Eelam.
On October 10, 1987, at just 20 years old, Second Lieutenant Malathy Akka became the first female Maaveerar, losing her life during a confrontation with the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Kopay, Yaazhpanam.
Her sacrifice became a defining moment in Tamil Eelam’s history, inspiring generations of Tamil women and leading to the establishment of the Malathi Regiment. Her legacy continues to represent the strength, determination, and unwavering spirit of Tamil women.
On this day, we honour not only Malathy Akka but also every female Maaveerar who dedicated her life to the Tamil Eelam struggle. We remember the countless women whose courage and sacrifices have left a lasting mark on our history. ❤️💛
