Alumni Spotlight: Nataliya Juddi ✨

Nataliya graduated from FSSH in 2024 with a degree in General Psychology. Through her practicum with the CityStudio program at Durham Region Municipality, she gained hands-on experience, explored a career path she hadn’t considered before, and built connections that helped open doors after graduation.

Her practicum manager later served as a reference, helping Nataliya land her dream job.

We’re celebrating two FSSH students who presented their summer research at the Undergraduate Student Research Award Showcase.

Tracey MacKenzie, a Political Science graduate, worked with Professor Alyson King and Daniella Simo on *Cultural and Sociodemographics of Academic Integrity: Exploring the Data*. Their video received the showcase’s Most Engagement Award after reaching more than 300 views. Tracey will begin graduate studies at York this September.

Arkyn Kornell, a Communications and Digital Media Studies graduate, worked with Professor Janette Hughes on *Ontario Tech: Women in the AI Machine*, a podcast project. Arkyn is also heading to graduate school in Europe.

Find a study space that works for you, get familiar with campus spots like Isabella’s, and make the most of opportunities to connect with your professors during office hours.

Building a routine early can make a real difference. Get involved, meet people in your seminars, and make use of the support and community around you.

In recognition of June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day, we would like to share some photos from our FSSH and Staff Retreat held on June 16 at Windfields Farm. We were treated to lunch which included a wild rice and berry salad and strawberry water in honour of June, or Strawberry Moon in many Indigenous cultures. Known as the "heart berry", strawberries are an important food, medicine, and symbol. We also learned about sweetgrass and its medicinal and spiritual importance in Indigenous cultures. Windfields Farm grows its own sweetgrass!

Thank you to Ryan Stevenson and the staff at Indigenous Education and Cultural Services for sharing your knowledge with our staff. It truly was a great time of reflection and bonding.

We were all given a complimentary candle, made from wax that was harvested from the bees at Windfields Farm!

June is National Indigenous History Month — a time to honour the histories, cultures, and resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Turtle Island. 🧡

To mark it, we're looking back at one of the most meaningful events of our past year: our campus screening of the award-winning documentary Sugarcane, followed by a Q&A and book signing with co-director, journalist, and author Julian Brave NoiseCat.

Watching our community fill the Regent Theatre to sit with a story this hard and this important is something we won't forget. Reconciliation isn't a once-a-year thing — it's the day-to-day work of listening, learning, and acting on what we hear.
