The greatest victories don’t always happen on the basketball court.
Years ago, I was introduced to a 13-year-old kid with a dream. Over the next two years, we spent countless hours in the gym. Together, we learned that success isn’t built on talent alone—it’s built on discipline, consistency, and doing the hard things when nobody is watching.
That work helped him earn back to back Team Ontario selections, but like many young people, life eventually pulled him in a different direction. He faced challenges that took him away from the game and away from the path he was on. A path that already had an offer from a high major D1 program and the stamp of approval of an NBA vet while only in the 10th grade.
10 years ago, this kid absolutely broke my heart but this is what mentorship looks like sometimes… It’s about believing in someone before they believe in themselves, and giving them the opportunity to become the person they’re capable of being.
After months of ignoring his emails, he showed up uninvited to speak to me in person.
I’m proud to say that after doing the difficult work to rebuild his life, he’s come full circle. He’s returning to the game that inspired him to be great—he’s returning with a clear purpose.
His goal is to become the best coach and skills trainer he can be while mentoring the next generation. He wants young athletes to understand the value of good decisions, strong character, and surrounding themselves with people who help them grow.

We just completed our first ALL GIRLS CAMP last week. Arguably the best camp I’ve been a part of yet. Every camper improved, every camper got smarter! 🧠🧐
