Thanks Jaydiz for helping out at the animal shelter today.

Our Grade 12 student spent the day volunteering at Wild Rose Humane Society and earned himself a very special kind of cap. 🐾

🚌 Bus Safety in Action! 🚌

Today, our students completed their scheduled bus evacuation drills!

Why it matters: Regular practice builds confidence and safety habits. It ensures every student knows how to exit the bus quickly, safely, and calmly if an emergency ever occurs.

How the kids did: They did an outstanding job! 👏 Everyone followed instructions perfectly, worked together, and completed the drill like absolute pros.

Huge thanks to our incredible bus drivers and staff for keeping our kids safe on and off the road every day!

A huge THANK YOU to Olds Sign Shop for donating rolls of paper to our school! 🎨📏✨

Every classroom found a unique and creative way to put their roll to use:
🖐️ Foundations got messy and colorful with some finger painting!
📏 Frontiers used their roll to measure how tall everyone is!
🎨 Pathways (High School) let their inner artists shine with life-sized drawings!

🐛 BIG NEWS FROM HORIZON SCHOOL! 🔍

Our students are stepping into the shoes of real-world scientists by participating in the BugQuest! program with BIOSCAN! 🧬✨

If you’ve walked by our school grounds recently, you might have noticed a mysterious mesh structure set up outdoors. Fun fact: Despite looking like a cozy pop-up tent, our Malaise trap is not meant for camping—and no, our students haven't moved out of the classroom to pitch a tent for the night! ⛺😂

Instead, this specialized tent-like structure intercepts flying insects so we can collect sample data. Each week, our students log weather conditions, swap collection bottles, and send our samples to the Centre for Biodiversity Genomics, where scientists use DNA barcoding to discover which bugs share our campus!

To ensure our young scientists gather accurate scientific data, please do not touch, move, or disturb the trap or collection bottle if you see it.

We are SO excited about our brand-new accessible picnic table! ♿️

A huge THANK YOU to our Parent Society, CESD Maintenance, and Scott at Concrete Specialists for helping make this happen!

Now our students who use wheelchairs can pull right up to the table, soak up some sunshine, enjoy a snack, and be right in the middle of the fun with everyone else. ☀️😊

It’s more than just a picnic table — it’s a little more sunshine, a little more togetherness, and a whole lot more “there’s a spot for you right here.” 💛

We can’t wait to see our students enjoying it!

At Horizon School, there is a rich history and a long tradition of providing quality educational programming for students with a variety of specialized needs, including communication difficulties, social emotional behavioural needs and developmental delays.

Horizon School is a school of support for Chinook's Edge School Division. Students who are in need of an alternate program transfer to Horizon from CESD community schools through a process involving the school's Learning Support Services team, the CESD Student Services Liaison for the school and Associate Superintendent of Student Services.

🎉 Happy Retirement, Debbie! 🎉

After an incredible career spanning more than 30 years with our division, we are celebrating Debbie as she begins her well-earned retirement!

Debbie's journey started at Division Office in 1995, working at IMC until 2000, before continuing at Division Office from 2000 to 2003. In 2011, she was recruited to join the Horizon School family as our Administrative Assistant, where she quickly became the heart of our office and a friendly face for students, staff, families, and visitors alike.

For the past 15 years at Horizon, Debbie has kept things running smoothly with her organization, dedication, kindness, and sense of humor. Her contributions have made a lasting impact on our school community, and she will be greatly missed.

As Debbie begins this exciting new chapter, we wish her countless happy days filled with crafting, spending time with her beloved dogs, enjoying her little paradise in Sundre, and tending to her beautiful garden. 🌻🐾🎨

Thank you, Debbie, for everything you have done for Horizon School and our division over the years. We wish you nothing but happiness, relaxation, and wonderful adventures in retirement!
