Horizon School

At Horizon School, there is a rich history and a long tradition of providing quality educational programming for students with a variety of specialized needs, including communication difficulties, social emotional behavioural needs and developmental delays.

Horizon School is a school of support for Chinook's Edge School Division. Students who are in need of an alternate program transfer to Horizon from CESD community schools through a process involving the school's Learning Support Services team, the CESD Student Services Liaison for the school and Associate Superintendent of Student Services.

After an incredible career spanning more than 30 years with our division, we are celebrating Debbie as she begins her well-earned retirement!

Debbie's journey started at Division Office in 1995, working at IMC until 2000, before continuing at Division Office from 2000 to 2003. In 2011, she was recruited to join the Horizon School family as our Administrative Assistant, where she quickly became the heart of our office and a friendly face for students, staff, families, and visitors alike.

For the past 15 years at Horizon, Debbie has kept things running smoothly with her organization, dedication, kindness, and sense of humor. Her contributions have made a lasting impact on our school community, and she will be greatly missed.

As Debbie begins this exciting new chapter, we wish her countless happy days filled with crafting, spending time with her beloved dogs, enjoying her little paradise in Sundre, and tending to her beautiful garden. 🌻🐾🎨

Thank you, Debbie, for everything you have done for Horizon School and our division over the years. We wish you nothing but happiness, relaxation, and wonderful adventures in retirement!

Huge congratulations are in order for an incredibly special milestone at Horizon School! This year, our graduating class may have been small, but the achievement is absolutely massive.

We are bursting with pride as we celebrate our one and only graduate this year: the amazing Faith! 💖

Faith has officially achieved her goal and attained her Grade 12 Certificate of Achievement ! 📜✨ Her hard work, dedication, and bright spirit have brought her to this incredible moment, and we couldn’t be prouder of the journey she’s taken to get here.

To celebrate, the vibe was all about think pink 🌸👚, matching the bright and beautiful future ahead of her.

There was quite a buzz around the school yesterday as staff took part in a hands-on professional development session with one of our teachers, Simone Dold. When she's not in the classroom, Simone can be found tending to her bees at S2Apiary in Bearberry

Simone had us all bee-ing creative as she taught us how to make sustainable beeswax wraps using beeswax from her hives nothing goes to waste at their bee yard.

So what's all the buzz about beeswax wraps? These reusable wraps are a sweet alternative to single-use plastic wrap. They can be washed, reused again and again, and eventually composted, helping to reduce waste and protect our environment. They're perfect for wrapping snacks, covering bowls, and keeping food fresh naturally.

A hive-five to Simone for sharing her expertise and helping us pollinate new ideas about sustainability. We left feeling inspired, informed, and ready to create a little less waste—one wrap at a time! 🐝🍯🌼

Our school recently received some wrestling mats from another school in our division. The original plan was to place them under the swing in the MPR to provide extra protection in case of falls. However, we quickly discovered that the students had other ideas! When rolled up into a coil and unwrapped across the floor, the mats became an instant favorite. Students have been using them in creative ways for active play, movement, and exploration. It's been wonderful to see how something intended for safety has also become a source of fun and engagement for our students.
