The Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) is challenging the Alberta government's Back to Work legislation in court.

ATA President Jason Schilling has requested that a judge pause the law until it's been examined in court. He said the ATA's legal action goes beyond simply protecting teachers' right to strike, and is essential to maintain Albertan citizens' right to free association.

Manitoba was the first province (1994) to recognize November 8th as Aboriginal Veterans Day. Indigenous Peoples were not allowed to lay wreaths at the National War Memorial until 1995.
The National Aboriginal Veterans War Memorial was unveiled in Ottawa on June 21, 2001. It wasn’t until 2003 that the Government of Canada provided veterans’ benefits to First Nations soldiers who had been denied them in the past. Niawen'ko:wa, thank you.

WWI Indigenous Veterans

Today we honour the brave Indigenous men and women who fought in service of Canada.

During the First World War, Indigenous peoples were not treated as equal citizens and were not required to enlist. Many stepped forward anyway, choosing to defend a country that did not yet recognize their rights.

Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment continue to guide us.

I Remember.

Let us all remember all who served.
