Would you put yourself between a broodmare and a bucket of grain?

*bucket is for her senior paddock pal with some medicine the broodmare doesn’t get. We thought this was a funny picture of one of our daily activities.

Fun fact!

The trot would be described as a “Two Beat, Diagonal Gait” if asked of any horseman or woman.

This means the horse moves his hooves 2 at a time. In diagonal pairs. The hind leg on the left travels at the same time, in the same rhythm, as the front leg on the right. And vice versa.

There is a small moment in time when switching from one diagonal pair of legs leaving the ground, and the other landing on the ground, that all 4 of the legs are off the ground at the same time!!!

This is called a moment of suspension - but we all know that’s fancy talk for BOUNCY if you’re a beginner learning to trot!

Sitting the trot, rising to the trot and two point in the trot are essential skills for any aspiring rider.

Here you can see Cadbury showing off his lovely, balanced movement in a “moment of suspension” with all 4 hooves off the ground as he trots.
