From SMLS to Washington, D.C.! Grade 11 Millie, Abby A., spent part of her summer at Georgetown University participating in an immersive neuroscience program. 🔬✨

It was an incredible experience that allowed her to explore her passions, get a taste of university-level academics, and build connections with ambitious peers driven toward post-secondary medical studies.

Abby immersed herself in practical lab work, participated in research where she investigated nanoneedling technology alongside an AI-enabled app that could help patients self-evaluate lithium levels prior to psychiatric intervention. Her favourite parts were dissecting a sheep's brain and interpreting MRIs! đź§

Do you ever wonder what Junior School teacher Ms. Currie does in her spare time? She loves to golf! 🏌️‍♀️

Ms. Curries love for the game started at age 11 during weekend rounds with her dad. That tradition carried on with her daughter, an SMLS alumna, who picked up her first club at age three and went on to compete for Team Canada and at the NCAA Division I level in South Carolina! 🏆

For Ms. Currie, golf is all about bringing people together across generations and geographies. The best part is that her incredible 93-year-old mother still plays several times a week, and Anne, her mom and her daughter all get together for an annual round or two! Talk about an inspiring Millie legacy!

Huge congratulations to SMLS student Miranda Y. on her acceptance into the prestigious Shad Canada program! 🌟

Getting into Shad is a major achievement! The highly competitive selection process looks for top-tier curiosity, creativity, and leadership beyond the classroom, and Miranda made an impression! With this acceptance, Miranda joins an incredible legacy of 47 SMLS Alumnae who have attended Shad over the last 47 years.

Miranda spent weeks in the summer discovering, innovating and growing. We are so proud!

While recently touring post-secondary campuses in the northeastern US, our Director of University Guidance, Ms. Bryant, stopped at the University of Vermont, where she connected with Grade 12 student, Michelle W. 📍

Michelle just completed her second year at MathCamp, an elite 6-week summer program hosted on a college campus where mathematically talented students from around the globe gather for intensive study. 🧠

Their meetup landed on National Ice Cream Day, so a trip to the local Ben & Jerry's was an absolute must! Talk about a cool way to celebrate hard work! 🍦

Professional Internship Series: Part 3 ✨

For Nicola’s Grade 11 professional internship, she spent her time gaining incredible clinical insight at Dr. Sharma’s OBGYN Clinic! 🩺 During her time she navigated the transition from the classroom to team member and healthcare professional. Nicola gave us insight into what this experience was like for her, sharing "I think the most rewarding part of my placement was when I truly felt comfortable doing my job. The first couple of weeks, I felt out of place and felt like I was almost replacing some of their tasks. However they made me feel really comfortable and towards the second week, I was confidently able to do my tasks. Instead of feeling like I was replacing, I was instead helping because they truly have days when they are so overwhelmed with the amount of tasks they have to get done."

It was wonderful to see Nicola build her confidence and become a valued, trusted member of the clinic’s team!

Creativity, stage presence, and a whole lot of theatrical magic at Millie Theatre Camp last week! 🎭

Our talented campers wrapped up an incredible week of drama, music, and creativity with a spectacular end-of-week final performance! 🎶 From The Lion King to Annie’s "It's a Hard Knock Life" and Mary Poppins’ "Let's Go Fly a Kite," every age group brought pure star power to the stage.

Throughout the week, our young performers were hard at work crafting their own stage props and costumes: decorating custom t-shirts, designing Lion King masks, and making their own kites! Add in some friendship bracelet making and pizza day, the week was an absolute showstopper! ✨
