Congratulations to OVA student Mallory Williams on being awarded Third Place in Diploma Voice yesterday at the 2024 OMFA Provincial Music Festival! So proud and happy for you, Mallory! Brava!

Overall it was a great festival season for OVA & all who participated at the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival & OMFA Provincials - congratulations to all, many thanks to our collaborative pianists Joanne Moorcroft & Larry Tarof - bravi tutti!

And of course, many thanks to the parents, family, friends, et al who provide such awesome support to all these students!

The Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincial Festival is underway, with virtual festival results coming in & the live festival starting up on June 10th, so this might be a good time to celebrate all my students who took part in the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival back in April and have already or will participate in Provincials (in no particular order):

Mallory Williams - 1st place, 20 & under Sacred Music; 1st place, 20 & under Early Music, 2nd place; 20 & under Concert Recital; performed on Trophy Night; was awarded the Kiwanis Club of Nepean scholarship; nominated to OMFA Provincials in Diploma Class 🌟

Zhepeng Xu (Patrick) - 2nd place, 28 & under Art Song/Mixed Repertoire; 3rd place, 28 & under Concert Recital 😊

Juliette Isaac gave a lovely performance in 28 & under Concert Recital, with the fourth highest score 😊

Lily Mialkowski & Yameeley Michel - 2nd place, 18 & under Music Theatre Duets, were nominated to Provincials where they were awarded 1st place in the MT Senior Duet class! 🌟

Jordan Quayle & Curran Hall - 1st place, 28 & under Music Theatre Duets, were nominated to Provincials where they were awarded 1st place in the MT Advanced Duet class! 🌟

Chloe Smith & Elynn Zeng - 3rd place, 14 & under Music Theatre Duets, were nominated to Provincials where they were awarded an Honorable Mention with Distinction 🌟

Annabelle Therrien & Julia Zuppa - 2nd place, 16 & under Music Theatre Duets, were nominated to Provincials where they were awarded an Honorable Mention 🌟

Yameeley Michel - 1st place, 16 & under Music Theatre Solo; performed on Trophy Night & was awarded the George Stewart Memorial Trophy! 🌟

Lily Mialkowski - 1st place, 17 & under Music Theatre Solo, performed on Trophy Night; nominated to Provincials but unable to attend 🌟

Amber McGrath-Seguin - 2nd place, 17 & under Music Theatre Solo, nominated to Provincials but unable to attend 🌟

Chloe Smith - 3rd place, Popular Voice 14 & under 🌟 - plus Chloe performed very well in her 14 & under Music Theatre Solo class 😊

Annabelle Therrien - 3rd place, 14 & under Music Theatre Solo, in her first Kiwanis Festival since before the pandemic🌟

Sebastian Henderson - 3rd place, 10 & under Music Theatre Solo, in his first Kiwanis Festival 🌟

Julia Zuppa & Lily Mialkowski - 3rd place, 18 & under Music Theatre Duets 🌟In addition to the two duets she was in that placed, Julia performed well but didn't place in 15 & under Music Theatre Solo (4th-highest score) - she has made so much progress & did well for her first Kiwanis Festival! 😊

Amber McGrath-Seguin & Yameeley Michel also gave an outstanding performance in 18 & under Music Theatre Duets, and finished with the fourth-highest score ☺️

I'm so proud of each & every one of my students (not only those who participate in festivals)! And we couldn't do any of this without the fantastic professional support students receive from our outstanding collaborative pianists Joanne Moorcroft & Larry Tarof - they're the glue that holds everything & everyone together, and I'm so happy to have them as colleagues and cherished friends! ❤ 🌟🙏

Last but not least, thank you to all the parents, spouses, significant others, grandparents, siblings, and friends whose support of these students in their musical endeavors is so crucial & important! 🌟

1st place - Senior Duet 17-18 - Lily Mialkowski & Yameeley Michel, "If Momma Was married" from Gypsy;

Honorable Mention - Intermediate Duet 15-16 - Annabelle Therrien & Julia Zuppa, "In His Eyes" from Jekyll & Hyde;

Honorable Mention with Distinction - Chloe Smith & Elynn Zeng, "Apex Predator" from Mean Girls - the Musical.

(Jordan & Elynn were welcome guests, performing with their friends who are in my studio).

We'd also like to congratulate Lily Mialkowski & Amber McGrath-Seguin, who were nominated to Musical Theatre Senior Solo in the live provincial festival in recognition of their outstanding performances at the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival, but were unfortunately unable to accept and attend the live festival due to scheduling conflicts.

Congratulations to studio & Carleton Music alumna Alicia Kayley on wrapping her upcoming album & killing it in Nashville!

And that’s a wrap on an incredible week,for Alicia Kayley,a pop/r&b singer from Canada! We finished up her new album with my tracking team here in Nashville,and then we got her up to sing with us at our show last night at Bourbon Street blues and boogie bar! This was her first time singing in Nashville and with a live band,but Alicia rose to the occasion and commanded that audience’s attention and they loved her! My favorite part about mentoring artists,is when they realize just how high they can fly,and that it was in them all along! I’m so proud of everything Alicia has accomplished this week,and we’re honored to be a small part of her journey! We can’t wait for you to all hear her music,and we’ll be cheering her on wherever it takes her next! Follow her social medias to keep up with her journey ♥️💫

Congratulations to my student Sherrie Spelchuk, who gave an outstanding performance in placing first in the Senior - Grad division yesterday at the Ottawa NATS festival! As a teacher, I'm so very proud of her! Her Verdi was spectacular, the whole program well done! She has grown so much over the past year, and in my opinion, displayed that growth in giving a significantly stronger performance than last April when she won the National Capital Festival of Music Ottawa Choral Society Trophy in senior voice & advanced to place second in the Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincials competition.

Sadly, she was mysteriously disinvited from performing in today's NATS gala concert.
