[Steve] Hall said the “vast majority of the situations” where he’s witnessed or been involved in a restraint could have been avoided if the adult had been more emotionally balanced.

“The best restraint is not to do one,” he said. “It tells me that adults have lost control.”

Words of wisdom coming from my good friend Hayley. Couldn’t agree more with what she says:

“In these difficult times with unexpected economic and public health concerns, learning more about ‘How to Have Supportive Conversations’, while maintaining your own mental health, will continue to be an important skillset. It is our on-going goal to assist others in feeling more confident and capable to have conversations with others who may be experiencing mental health and/or life stress challenges.”

M**h-fueled violence leaves Calgary ER staff feeling unsafe 12/21/2018

Crystal M**h has surpassed the opioid crisis in the West. The behaviours presented by someone under the influence of similar substance are impulsive and irrational. De-escalation techniques often fail because the attempt is to rationalize with the individual in crisis.

Team intervention and short trauma-informed scripts might be a better return on the investment. In such a situation where someone is under m**h psychosis, it is not what you say that might reduce the level of arousal experienced by the consumer, but rather the way you say it!

M**h-fueled violence leaves Calgary ER staff feeling unsafe Use of the highly-addictive drug has skyrocketed in many cities across western Canada in recent months.
