Established in 1968, Dearcroft is Oakville’s original Montessori school and the first in our community to offer a comprehensive Junior High program since 1999.

Now at our 50th Anniversary, we offer a full toddler to Grade 8 program. At Dearcroft Montessori, we have been educating, laughing and learning along side of our students for 50 years, and we hope to do so for another 50. This page is a way for friends, old and new, to communicate with the Dearcroft Community.

Summer is flying by! ☀️💛 As we start preparing for the new school year, we can’t help but think about those special first few days in our Toddler classroom.

The settling in, new routines, curious little minds, first friendships, and those precious smiles as our little ones begin to feel at home. 🧸✨

We’re so excited for the back-to-school buzz and can’t wait to welcome our little learners back! 🎒🌈

Junior High Graduates: Leading the Way

We love seeing how well our Dearcroft Junior High alumni continue to thrive as they take the next steps in their high school journey!

Our alumni are stepping into high school with confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of responsibility. They take the lead, get involved in a wide range of activities, and aren’t afraid to ask questions or seek new opportunities to learn.

Most importantly, they take ownership of their work and their learning. They understand that success is not just about achieving good results—it’s about being engaged, taking initiative, contributing to their community, and making the most of every opportunity.

We couldn’t be prouder to see our Dearcroft students carrying these qualities with them into high school and beyond! 💙

Every year, our Junior Elementary students write special welcome letters to our new Elementary students. ✨

In their letters, they share advice, introduce them to classroom life, and give them a little glimpse into what it’s like to be a Junior Elementary student. 📚💛

It’s a beautiful classroom tradition and one of the many ways we help our new students feel welcomed, supported, and excited to begin their journey with us.

Sometimes, the best welcome comes from someone who has been there before. 🌱

The Junior High Language and Culture program takes students beyond the classroom through Independent Study Projects (ISP).

Rather than being assigned the same topic, each student chooses a subject that genuinely sparks their interest. From global cultures and languages to history, traditions, current events, and more, they explore topics that matter to them.

Students conduct in-depth research, strengthen their writing and critical thinking skills, and bring their learning to life through creative presentations that showcase both their knowledge and their individuality.

At an age when curiosity can shape confidence, ISP gives students the opportunity to ask meaningful questions, think independently, communicate effectively, and take ownership of their learning.

Because when students are excited about what they’re learning, they don’t just remember facts—they develop the skills and confidence to become lifelong learners.

✨ Curiosity. Creativity. Confidence. That’s the power of Independent Study Projects.

There is something truly special about watching a student stand up and confidently share what they have discovered.

Elementary Speech Day last school year was a wonderful celebration of curiosity, courage, and growth. Each student shared their ideas with confidence, demonstrating not only their knowledge but also their ability to communicate thoughtfully and inspire others.

In Montessori education, these moments are so much more than public speaking. During the second plane of development (ages 6–12), students are driven by a deep curiosity about the world through Cosmic Education. Speeches become the natural expression of that journey—allowing students to organise their thinking, share their understanding, and contribute meaningfully to their community.

🐣 From Egg to Chick: Science Comes to Life!

One of our all-time favourite experiments from last school year was the unforgettable chick hatching project! 🥚✨

Our CASA students became real-life scientists as they carefully placed fertilized eggs into the incubator and observed each stage of the journey. Along the way, they learned about the life cycle of a chick, discovered how an incubator provides the warmth and humidity needed for development, and watched in amazement as tiny chicks began to hatch.

The excitement didn’t end there! After hatching, students had the opportunity to gently hold the chicks, observe their behaviours, and see firsthand how living things grow and change.

There’s nothing quite like combining hands-on learning with the wonder of nature. Experiences like these spark curiosity, encourage scientific thinking, and create memories that last a lifetime! 💛🐥

The friendships formed at school often become some of life’s most meaningful connections. 💙

From the very first day to graduation and beyond, it’s a privilege to watch these friendships grow, strengthen, and flourish through every stage of our students’ journey.

At our school, we are proud to nurture an environment where kindness, generosity, empathy, and respect are part of everyday life. Alongside academic learning, our students develop the skills to build lasting relationships, resolve conflicts with understanding, and support one another through ups and downs.

These are the connections that help shape confident, compassionate individuals.

Our junior high leaders play an active role in shaping school life. They help organize and run school events, lead activities, represent the student body, and work together to make a positive impact on our community.

From fundraising for meaningful initiatives to serving as role models for their peers, they’re developing confidence, responsibility, communication, and teamwork every step of the way.

These experiences teach students that leadership is about service, collaboration, and making a difference. We’re proud to see them grow into thoughtful, capable leaders who are ready to take on new challenges—both inside and outside the classroom.

📚 Books, Blankets & a Wonderful Community

Behind every successful school event is an incredible community, and we are so grateful for our amazing parent volunteers. The time, energy, and care you invest throughout the school year help create meaningful experiences and lasting memories for our students.

One of our favourite end-of-year traditions is Books & Blankets. Armed with a good book, a cozy blanket, and the company of friends, our students spend time reading, relaxing, and celebrating a shared love of stories. It’s a simple tradition that has become one of the highlights of the school year.

To all of our parent volunteers—thank you for your generosity, enthusiasm, and unwavering support. Your partnership helps make our school community such a special place, and we couldn’t do it without you.

The last week of school is always filled with special events, but one of our Casa students’ absolute favourites is Board Game Day!

Students bring in their favourite board games, teach their classmates how to play, and enjoy an afternoon of fun, teamwork, and friendly competition. It’s a wonderful opportunity to build communication skills, practise patience, and create lasting memories together.

Looking for an activity to keep little minds engaged during those long summer days? We can confirm that board games are always a big hit!
