Montessori myths we’ve heard:
“Montessori environments lack structure.” or “Montessori environments are too structured.”

The truth is that Montessori classrooms are intentionally prepared. Clear routines, sequenced materials, and unique expectations create a strong foundation.

Within that structure, children experience genuine freedom: the freedom to choose meaningful work, collaborate, and grow into confident, self‑directed learners.

A well‑prepared environment doesn’t limit children; it empowers them. 💚

Pull up a chair!

At Clanmore, families are welcomed into our classrooms through ongoing observations; a hallmark of Montessori education and a core part of who we are.

Observations offer a quiet moment to watch your child in their learning environment. No directing, no interrupting, simply witnessing their independence, focus, and confidence unfold.

We believe parents and educators share a front‑row seat in a child’s development. These moments strengthen the partnership between home and school and offer a rare window into your child’s growing capabilities. 🪑💚

Camp at Clanmore is in full swing!

Last week, our campers became world travellers, exploring countries around the globe through music, dance, stories, crafts, and food. 🌎

A special guest joined us to share traditions from Cameroon, and the children learned a dance, sang together, and played music as a group. Their call‑and‑response chorus said it all:
“I love my school, I love my teachers, and all my friends.”

This week, we took a walk on the wild side with our friends from Speaking of Wildlife 🐾

Meeting the Animal Ambassadors and learning about Ontario wildlife up close is always a highlight!

A memorable start to summer, filled with movement, culture, connection and plenty of fun! 💚☀️

Looking for simple, Montessori‑inspired ways to keep children engaged throughout the summer months?☀️

For younger children:
• Invite them to help with real tasks - watering plants, washing veggies, tidying outdoor spaces
• Open‑ended outdoor play with scoops, buckets, chalk, or water
• Small moments of independence - choosing a snack, packing a little bag, putting on shoes

For older children:
• Practical life projects like planning a picnic or preparing a simple recipe
• Caring for a garden bed or managing a summer reading list
• Real‑world math and literacy - maps, measuring, budgeting, postcards

Summer offers a chance to slow down, enjoy everyday moments, and have fun together as life moves at a gentler pace. 💚

Last week, our Middle School students hosted their end‑of‑year Showcase. The Showcase featured projects from the Engineering Design unit, where students applied their physics knowledge to real‑world design challenges.

They explored structural components in architecture, learned about Newton’s Laws, and practiced calculating force. To conclude the unit, each student selected an engineering problem to investigate, then designed and built a solution using every stage of the engineering design process.

The Showcase was a wonderful opportunity for our Middle School students to share their hard work. It was inspiring to watch younger students engage with their creations and see what’s possible in the years ahead.

These final days are flying by, but moments like this remind us just how much thoughtful, meaningful learning has taken place this year. 💚

Our Third Year Casa students spent the day exploring : meeting barn animals, connecting with nature, and learning from the park staff who care for it. ☀️🌳🐖

A day filled with curiosity, fresh air, big smiles, and the kind of memories that stay with them. 💚

Before departing for Costa Rica, our Middle School students took on meaningful, real‑world responsibilities that helped them prepare for their learning journey.

In true Montessori fashion, they engaged in purposeful work that built independence, collaboration, and global awareness.

Students reviewed flight contracts, generated thoughtful questions for Jeff (their guide), and completed their Costa Rica Passport Project; researching history, culture, ecotourism, biodiversity, conservation, and wildlife specific to the region they would visit. They also shared weekly current events from Costa Rica to deepen their understanding of the country’s context.

Preparation extended beyond academics. Students helped source a lawyer through the Clanmore community to notarize travel documents, co‑created a travel code of conduct, and planned and led a parent information evening. They presented the itinerary, accommodations, safety procedures, currency exchange, and highlights from their research and even prepared a traditional Costa Rican dish, pico de gallo, to share with families.

These experiences reflect the heart of Montessori adolescent education: meaningful work, real‑world application, and learning that connects students to the wider world. Their journey began long before they boarded the plane. 💚
