Last week, our Middle School students hosted their end‑of‑year Showcase. The Showcase featured projects from the Engineering Design unit, where students applied their physics knowledge to real‑world design challenges.

They explored structural components in architecture, learned about Newton’s Laws, and practiced calculating force. To conclude the unit, each student selected an engineering problem to investigate, then designed and built a solution using every stage of the engineering design process.

The Showcase was a wonderful opportunity for our Middle School students to share their hard work. It was inspiring to watch younger students engage with their creations and see what’s possible in the years ahead.

These final days are flying by, but moments like this remind us just how much thoughtful, meaningful learning has taken place this year. 💚

Our Third Year Casa students spent the day exploring : meeting barn animals, connecting with nature, and learning from the park staff who care for it. ☀️🌳🐖

A day filled with curiosity, fresh air, big smiles, and the kind of memories that stay with them. 💚

Before departing for Costa Rica, our Middle School students took on meaningful, real‑world responsibilities that helped them prepare for their learning journey.

In true Montessori fashion, they engaged in purposeful work that built independence, collaboration, and global awareness.

Students reviewed flight contracts, generated thoughtful questions for Jeff (their guide), and completed their Costa Rica Passport Project; researching history, culture, ecotourism, biodiversity, conservation, and wildlife specific to the region they would visit. They also shared weekly current events from Costa Rica to deepen their understanding of the country’s context.

Preparation extended beyond academics. Students helped source a lawyer through the Clanmore community to notarize travel documents, co‑created a travel code of conduct, and planned and led a parent information evening. They presented the itinerary, accommodations, safety procedures, currency exchange, and highlights from their research and even prepared a traditional Costa Rican dish, pico de gallo, to share with families.

These experiences reflect the heart of Montessori adolescent education: meaningful work, real‑world application, and learning that connects students to the wider world. Their journey began long before they boarded the plane. 💚

Our Middle School students recently returned from Costa Rica - an experiential learning journey rooted in sustainability, student leadership, and Montessori adolescent development.

The idea began last spring when one of our guides attended a sustainability conference hosted by . Students from shared their experiences with Friends of the Rainforest and Natural Solutions, and hearing directly from young people about their time in the rainforest sparked our interest in exploring the opportunity for our own students.

To prepare, our students:
• Met with Butler Montessori students over Zoom to hear firsthand about the trip.
• Connected with Dr. Jeff Norris, a Costa Rica - based guide with 15+ years of leading Montessori‑inspired rainforest programs.

Choosing Costa Rica wasn’t just about travel. It was about self‑discovery. A residential experience gives adolescents the chance to live in a community away from home, build independence, and learn through meaningful work in a real‑world environment.

A journey shaped through student exploration, grounded in Montessori principles, and brought to life in the rainforest. 💚✈️🌎🐸🌱

The word “Montessori” is not trademarked, which means any school can use the name, even without following Montessori principles or the standards that define authentic Montessori education. Because of this, the quality of “Montessori” programs can vary widely. That’s where accreditation matters.

Accredited Montessori schools commit to:
• Trained Montessori educators at every level
• Authentic Montessori materials and thoughtfully prepared environments
• Child‑centred, developmentally aligned practice
• Ongoing evaluation, accountability, and continuous improvement

Clanmore is proud to be an Accredited Montessori School through Montessori Canada (formerly CCMA), a designation we have held and maintained since 2011.

Curious to see what authentic Montessori looks and feels like? We’d love to welcome you for a visit. Book a tour and come see the difference for yourself! 💚

In a Montessori environment, learning is designed to go deeper during the school day. Through carefully prepared materials and purposeful activities, students are given the time, space, and autonomy to fully engage with their work.

Rather than relying on homework for reinforcement, Montessori education emphasizes concentration, independence, and mastery in the classroom. Children follow their curiosity, work at their own pace, and take ownership of their learning; often reaching a level of understanding that makes additional work at home unnecessary.

Our goal is to nurture confident, capable learners who feel empowered by their work, both in and out of the classroom. 💚

Spring invites even our youngest learners to care for the world around them. 🌱🌎

Activities such as washing leaves help build functional independence while fostering a natural connection to the environment.

Through meaningful, hands-on tasks, children discover that they can be valuable contributors to their community. 💚
