So sorry we’ve been MIA recently, it’s been busy!

Here’s an activity I put together for Miss 3.3 and Miss 1.5 and they actually played together! 💃🏻

✅Match the animals to the colour dot stickers
✅Build the city (trees, buildings, signs)
✅Inspire pretend play!
Even Peppa 🐷 got in on the action 🤣 @ Oakville, Ontario

Sticky contact paper on a wall and pompoms, paper cut outs or any random pipe cleaner pieces was the best indoor activity on a wet day. A solid 20 minutes of FUN.

🚨PSA: I drank my tea warm this morning ☕️

Happy November from my family to yours! 🥘 🍁

This gift of 💡 ideas is for all of those tired mamas that want to do so much with their littles but don’t have the energy. ❤️ You’re doing great!

Autumn/Fall? What do you call this season? 🍁
We don’t carve pumpkins in our house...but we sure do decorate them!! 🎃
Grab some construction or tissue paper and enjoy! I’ve seen some older children draw designs on the pumpkins to make faces (then glue things on) - my littles 👶🏻 👶🏻 aren’t quite ready for that. So we practice our glue skills. @ Oakville, Ontario

Colour🌈 match dot stickers? In a Halloween-ish 🎃 design?
Yes. ✅
I love this activity because it takes 2 minutes to set up and gives my girls 🎀 a sense of accomplishment 💪🏼 (Even Miss 1.5)
So grab your sharpie and some dot stickers. The possibilities are endless 💃🏻

Welcome Autumn and all the gorgeous 🍁 colour!
We love walks and collecting 🍂“treasures” 🍃 Try it 🌟
OR use artificial, available at Micheals, the dollar store or Amazon!

📝Letter recognition. Write the first letter of their name or maybe your little is ready for their whole name! Next grab some glue, (Elmer’s liquid glue works best for us) “treasures” (pieces of leaves, sticks, petals, flowers etc) and watch them goooo 🏃

🚨TIP: Hang children’s artwork up at home, it shows them their creative efforts are valued and builds their sense of confidence.

Babies and toddlers UNITE! So I have had TONS of questions on what I did with my babes to increase fine motor skills (muscles used to hold a pencil, button a shirt, cut with scissors etc)

🗣 Counting with MANIPULATIVES
Now that’s just a fancy term for a physical teaching “tool”❣️

When children are visually 👁 and physically engaged with objects like coins, blocks, paper clips, pompoms etc. It helps solidify the learning 🧠

123s are great! Buuuut 🚨 The foundation of math is understanding what numbers represent! 🧮

Find a set of playing cards🃏 and some random manipulatives 😉 and practice counting with a visual representation 👊🏼

Announcement: My 3yo loves purple. 🌟

While on a hike I got asked “Why aren’t the leaves or acorns purple? I love purple”
SO we brought some treasures 🍁 home and painted things purple!
🚨
If you’re still scared of paint, use washable nail polish (dollarama) or paint markers (crayons) Helps develop fine motor skills (check out the way she’s painting that leaf 🍂 ...pencil 🖊 grip 😍) @ Oakville, Ontario

Units of measure 👊🏼 now you can do this with yarn🧶 , pompoms, beads, tape, counting bears 🐻 etc etc etc.

The name of the game is GUESS and CHECK 🚨 huge skill! Why not get a head start? 🏃🏽‍♀️
Have your child guess the length of the letters in their name! Then see if adjustment is needed 💃🏻
We worked our way up to yarn 🧶 and scissors ✂️ , start with whatever your little is ready for!!

Excerpt from my 📖eBook (releasing this October) The BASICS ~ Bringing Montessori Home: Birth - Age 6.

Little children love to help and they love feeling capable, useful and purposeful. "Allowing" children to contribute to everyday practical life activities (PLA) around the house, creates a sense of purpose and belonging to a family unit, making them feel important and seen! Make sure to offer child-sized tools to help them succeed, while they are developing independence and responsibility!
⠀ “The essence of independence is to be able to do something for one’s self. Adults work to finish a task, but the child works in order to grow, and is working to create the adult, the person that is to be. Such experience is not just play... it is work he must do in order to grow up.” Maria Montessori.
⠀ “REAL WORK" PLA for :
•FOOD PREP:
- washing fruits & vegetables
- cutting fruits & veggies with a child-safe knife
- pouring milk from a child-sized pitcher
- sorting cutlery (please remove sharp knives) - setting a table for meals, clearing the table, washing dishes
- serving oneself a snack from an accessible area
- measuring & pouring ingredients, stirring, kneading
•AROUND THE HOUSE:
- wiping spills or wiping surfaces with a rag
- dusting, mopping or sweeping the floor
- washing a table with a brush
- folding small towels
- putting away toys
- loading/unloading laundry etc
•SELF-CARE:
- getting dressed (zipping up a jacket, pulling the pants up/or down, buttoning a shirt, fastening shoes)
- washing hands, brushing hair, blowing a nose, brushing teeth
•CARE of the ENVIRONMENT:
- caring for pets, household plants ...
