50% of training is the discipline to follow through on these two tips.

⚠️ Put your phone away! Scrolling, music, even reading - all dull your situational awareness and alertness that put you at unnecessary risk.

⚠️ Get away from dangerous situations. Cross the street. Leave the party. Bail on the date. Get off the subway car! Nothing is more important than trusting yourself and staying safe.

🦺 What's one SAFETY TIP you think others should know and follow?

1. If one more person tells me "but we should teach boys to behave and not be criminals". Yes, of course we should. But also, do not deny the way of the world (Miyamoto Musashi).

2. All the phone calls I get every August from parents of daughters going away to university... The perfect example of why training from a place of fear doesn't work. It comes way too late in the game.

3. How long does it take? Like any skill... a while. Most parents enroll their children in swim lessons for 5+ years. It's a long game.

4. Most adult women who walk into our gym are survivors of violence. So much trauma and heartbreak. We wish we could have trained them as young girls.

5. You can do this with love for yourself and the process. Everyone is smiling and having fun while becoming a deadly weapon.

6. Yes, we teach girls as young as 4. No we don't post their photos or videos on social media but you can find the complete class schedule on our website!

Coach started training martial arts at 18. With 16+ years of striking, grappling, and self defense tactics, he embodies what it means to be a true martial artist and warrior. It was a beautiful sight to see you return to the competition mats after a decade. You demonstrated sharpened skills and mindset in a superfight that defied weight classes.

Congratulations to Coach for showcasing great Jiu Jitsu expertise and winning both matches.

What a memorable day at the in house tournament. Congratulations to all competitors and thank you to Professor for delivering an event with great vibes all around. 🙏🏼

As the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) becomes more popular, especially among children, there is growing concern about the practice of "sandbagging" – where competitors are deliberately held at lower belt levels to secure easy victories. This trend not only undermines fair competition but also poses serious risks, such as an increased likelihood of injury and potential dropouts from the sport.

We noticed this issue when our students began competing more frequently, especially with kids showing interest in competitions. It became evident that some coaches were intentionally keeping their students at lower belt levels to amass wins and gain recognition for their academy and team. Parents were also complicit, often hiding their child's overwhelming success and consecutive victories to maintain an illusion of fair play.

We've witnessed disturbing incidents where highly skilled competitors at lower belt levels caused injuries to their opponents, some of whom took months to recover. This not only tarnishes the spirit of the sport but also jeopardizes the well-being of the participants.

Do you AGREE or DISAGREE: Is sandbagging is a real problem?

Most people who do BJJ aren't even trying to optimize for BJJ, they are trying to optimize for life. It's about good vibes with good people and not getting injured. Angry/obsessive might be the vibe for some but it's not what most people want.
