Mickey's playhouse family childcare

We are in an in-home Family Child Care Centre licensed by Vancouver Coastal Health . She is a certified 3-5 years old and Infant/Toddlers educator.

I have been working with families' for over 10 years now, recently my daughter has joined to work in a partnership with me. We offer care for children ages 0-12 years old. The educators at Mickey's Playhouse believe that each child is a gift and that we should foster and nurture each child’s unique set of strengths and talents by offering learning experiences and explorations that follow the child

ren’s interest and their curiosity about the world around them. We believe that children learn best through play. Through play we are able to see how the children use their imagination and creativity while displaying their perception of the world around them. We see that play has the ability to build relationships and create connections within children. We believe that if children have loving, respectful, responsive and reciprocal relationships at an early age they can grow up to become kind, compassionate, empathetic members of their communities. We believe children need opportunities that encourage self-expression, problem-solving, and risk taking. We thrive to build deep and meaningful relationships with the children that can help them freely express their feelings and concerns. We believe children are scientific researchers questioning, exploring, and discovering the world around them. We believe that environments are crucial in the well – being and learning development of the children. We feel learning is holistic and children should be provided with various explorations that fit their interests such as: arts, music, movement, sciences, maths and social studies. We believe children deserve active play time that encourages them to move their bodies and test what they are capable of doing. We believe children have the right to be who they want to be. Our primary focus is always what is in the best interests of the child and in doing so we honor the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We strive to have an inclusive environment that meets the needs of each individual child. We will seek input from families as we form collaborative relationships with them and honor their role as the child’s first and primary educators, as we believe that the most effective learning happens when the home and service work together in a synergistic partnership. We understand that community can help shape a child’s identity as a powerful player in his or her own life, and the lives of others. We encourage children to reach out to their communities and give helping hands whenever needed. We want the children to build connections to the land, culture, and their communities. We desire for the children to understand that their actions can impact others around them. As we live in a multicultural community we strive to respect each family’s different cultural beliefs and practices and draw on each family’s personal knowledge and strengths. We respect parent’s wants and needs for their children while also following the BC Code Of Ethics.
