Yesterday I received a call from my son’s daycare while I was at work.

My heart sank when I saw the name pop up and immediately ran through 500 different scenarios before I got the word “hello” out of my mouth.

It was one of my son’s teachers and she sounded worried. I thought he must be hurt, or worse, he’s sick and now I’ll have to play the “is it a summer cold or is it the rona” game that we all play in the fun year that is 2020.

My fears were relieved as soon as she started to speak. He p**ped. My kid p**ped.

Now, this would not normally be a revelation. People p**p, it’s nothing to write home about. Except, my kid is on the cusp of being ready to potty train so when he drops a numero dos, he immediately says potty and starts pulling his pants down and unfastening his diaper.

I can only imagine his teachers horror and cat like reflexes when she spotted him across the room about to drop trou.

Long story short, in her frenzy to get my kid on the changing table before an unfortunate accident occurred, she forgot to dry off the table.

His little dinosaur shirt got disinfectant on it and it discolored his shirt. She was stressed thinking I would be angry.

I said to her, “do you know what that tells me about you? It tells me that you’re disinfecting the changing table between each kid.”

She breathed an audible sigh of relief.

Be nice to child care workers y’all. They need our grace. They’re underpaid and are doing their best to teach and love on our kids, and keep them safe while you’re working.
