❤️ At GrowVille, sometimes one of the hardest things for us as adults is not helping right away. 😊

We see a child trying to make something work, and our instinct is to step in, show them how, or make it easier. And of course, there are times when children genuinely need our help.

But there are also times when they just need a little more time.

That small moment of frustration, trying one way, realizing it didn’t work, changing something, and trying again, is where so much learning happens.

So sometimes we stay close, encourage them, and resist the urge to do it for them.

Because the smile that comes after “I did it myself!” is worth those extra few minutes. ❤️

And little by little, those moments become something much bigger: “I can figure things out.”

❤️ At GrowVille, this is something that means a lot to me personally.

Of course I want the children to learn, explore, make friends and have fun while they’re here. But more than anything, I want every child who walks through our door to feel safe, loved, valued, and like they truly belong here.

I want them to know there is always someone here to hug them when they miss Mom or Dad, listen to their very important stories 😊, celebrate the little things with them, and remind them that their feelings matter.

Children may not remember every activity we did or every lesson we taught, but I truly believe they remember how a place made them feel.

And if they go home each day knowing...

I am safe here.
I am valued here.
I am loved here.
I belong here. ❤️

Then we’ve done something very important.

❤️ At GrowVille, we get to watch some of the earliest friendships begin, and they don’t always look the way adults expect them to.

At this age, friendship might mean choosing to sit near the same child every day. It might be watching what they’re doing and quietly joining in, copying their idea, handing them a toy, or suddenly bursting into laughter over something only the two of them seem to understand. 😊

Young children are still learning how to enter play, communicate their ideas, take turns, handle disagreements, and understand someone else’s feelings. All of that takes time and lots of practice.

So when we see two children simply enjoying the same space, noticing each other, and slowly beginning to connect, we know something important is happening.

Friendship doesn’t always begin with “Will you be my friend?” Sometimes it begins with “Can I sit here too?” ❤️

❤️ Some Fridays I’m grateful for the big things, but today it’s simply this: I get to spend my days surrounded by little people and so much love.

Children have such a genuine way of showing affection. The unexpected hugs, the little hand reaching for yours on a walk, the excitement when they have something to tell you, or the way they come looking for you when they need a little comfort.

Working with young children can be busy, loud, messy, and definitely exhausting some days. 😄 But then there are moments like these that remind me what a privilege it is to be part of their everyday lives.

They may be little, but the love they give is anything but small. ❤️

Feeling especially grateful for my little GrowVille family today.

❤️ At GrowVille, we love watching children find their own purpose for the materials around them.

We may put out building pieces expecting towers, houses, or patterns, and then suddenly they’re phones, roads, food, treasure, or part of a completely different game we never saw coming. 😊

That’s one of the beautiful things about open-ended play. When a toy doesn’t have just one “right” way to be used, children have room to experiment, imagine, problem-solve, and bring their own ideas into the experience.

As adults, it can be tempting to show children what something is supposed to do. But sometimes the better choice is to stay curious and see what they decide it can become.

Because when children take play in an unexpected direction, they’re not doing it wrong. They’re making the play their own. ❤️

❤️ At GrowVille, we don’t always rush to answer every “why?” 😊

When children discover something interesting, a spider in the corner, a tiny bug outside, or something they’ve never noticed before, our first instinct as adults can be to explain what we know.

But sometimes, curiosity grows more when we wonder alongside them.

“What do you think it’s doing?”
“Where do you think it’s going?”
“Why do you think it chose that spot?”

We may know the answer, or we may have absolutely no idea. 😄 Either way, wondering together gives children space to observe closely, make predictions, share their own theories, and change their thinking as they discover more.

Not every question needs an immediate answer. Sometimes “Hmm… I wonder too” is exactly where the learning begins. ❤️

❤️ At GrowVille, we see this one all the time. 😄

A toy can sit quietly on the shelf without getting a second look… until another child starts playing with it. Suddenly, it becomes the most interesting toy in the entire room. 😂

As funny (and sometimes frustrating!) as these moments can be, they’re a very normal part of early childhood. Young children are still learning what it means to share space and materials with others, wait for a turn, communicate what they want, and cope when they can’t have something immediately.

And sometimes, another child simply makes an activity look more interesting. Children learn so much by watching one another. One child’s idea can spark curiosity, inspire a completely different way to play, or turn independent play into something social.

So yes, there may be a little “But I wanted it!” along the way. 😊 But underneath all of it, some pretty important social learning is happening.
