Faculty Friday: Meet Ms. MacRae!

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Ms. MacRae, a Grade 6–7 POD Homeroom and Humanities Teacher at Brockton. One of the things she loves most about the POD Program is the opportunity for students and teachers to learn and grow together over two years, allowing strong relationships to develop and helping students feel supported, understood, and confident as learners. She describes the POD community in three words: curious, energetic, and compassionate.

As a Humanities teacher, Ms. MacRae’s favourite part of the job is connecting learning to the real world through inquiry, action, and community experiences such as the Human Rights Museum, Walk for Water, the Dig, and the Big Brain Fair. When asked about her favourite Brockton traditions and/or events, she shared that the World Music Performance is always a highlight of the year, showcasing the incredible talent, dedication, and courage of our students, as well as the Brockton Graduation.

Fun fact: Ms. MacRae once petted tigers in Thailand!

Advice for future POD students:
Be yourself. Being different is cool.

What does she hope students remember most?
The importance of being Upstanders and using their voices to make a difference.

Thank you, Ms. MacRae, for inspiring our students every day!

With the year coming to a close, the Grade 10s were fortunate to spend three days in the sunshine together in Sechelt Inlet on a fun-filled Outdoor Education kayaking experience. Though paddling through aquamarine blue water with seals and sea cucumbers below, and eagles and ospreys circling above was certainly a memorable experience in itself, the group was also put to the test as they completed various ‘Survivor’ challenges over the course of the trip.

The competitions ranged from Oreo-licking to fire-lighting, with each new game offering an opportunity to win points for their team as they fought to become Brockton’s next Survivor Champions. Could the Greens and their taste for funky chip flavours be the prevailing team? Will Purple and Red’s cunning memories push them to the top of the standings? Was Pink’s knack for fire-building enough to burn up the competition? Or will the Blue Team’s relentless spirit drive them into first? Stay tuned, as the winning team will be announced at the final assembly!

This week was our Brockton Step Up Ceremony! Congratulations to our Grade 7 students on completing their POD experience.

This milestone marks an exciting step in their Brockton journey. Through curiosity, collaboration, reflection, and courage, they have continued to grow as thoughtful learners and compassionate community members, ready to meet new challenges with purpose and confidence.

As they prepare to enter Senior School next year, we celebrate all they have become and all they are still becoming. We can’t wait to see how they continue to learn, lead, and make a positive impact.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone in our community who has supported our students throughout this journey, and to our parent volunteers, student speakers, and staff members who helped make this special event possible.

Classroom views looked a little different for our Grade 5s last week!

They headed up the Sea to Sky Gondola to bring their science and nature units to life. It’s one thing to read about geological history in a textbook, but it’s entirely another to stand on a mountain and see the rock cycle right beneath your boots.

Throughout the day, our students leaned into their curiosity and teamwork by:

Investigating local wildlife and sub-alpine ecosystems.

Finding real-world examples of the rock cycle on the trails.

Building community and encouraging one another through team games and crossing the suspension bridge.

Moments like these are at the heart of the Brockton experience, giving students the space to explore deeply, support one another, and connect with the world around them.

Class of 2026 Graduate in Focus: Harrison 🎓

Throughout his time at Brockton, Harrison embraced a wide range of opportunities, participating in volleyball, rock climbing, skiing, and mountain biking. Of all his extracurricular activities, mountain biking remained a constant throughout his Brockton journey.

One of Harrison’s most memorable academic experiences was creating a psychology podcast in Ms. Bishop’s class. He credits Ms. Bishop as a staff member who had a significant impact on his time at Brockton, consistently offering guidance, encouragement, and support throughout his years at the school.

Some of Harrison’s favourite Brockton memories come from Outdoor Education and athletics, including bus rides with the mountain biking and skiing teams, as well as kayaking and camping trips.

What stands out most to Harrison about Brockton is the strong network of support available to students and the sense that every student is known, valued, and encouraged to do their best.

After graduation, Harrison plans to attend university, with the University of Victoria currently at the top of his list.

Congratulations, Harrison! We wish you all the best in this exciting next chapter.

Faculty Friday: Meet Mr. Crowley!

This week, we’re highlighting Mr. Crowley, our Junior and Senior School Physical & Health Education teacher.

Mr. Crowley loves that PE at Brockton allows students to take advantage of the incredible outdoor opportunities right in our backyard. Through sport, movement, and outdoor learning, he encourages students to build one of life’s most important skills: resilience.

To Mr. Crowley, healthy living is all about balance: doing things you enjoy, getting enough rest, and creating habits that help you feel your best. He strives to model that balance for his students every day.

One of his proudest Brockton moments was coaching the Cross Country team to the Provincial Championships, where the Senior Boys team placed 4th in British Columbia!

Thank you, Mr. Crowley, for helping our students grow into resilient, balanced, and confident learners.
