Ever looked at a tree and thought, โ€œWowโ€ฆ I have absolutely no idea whatโ€™s growing on that bark?โ€

Join us for a slow stroll through Lynn Canyon Park as we dive into the fascinating world of local lichen species. So many the tiny forest organisms quietly covering branches, rocks, and logs all around us โœจ

This beginner-friendly workshop will be an easy-paced forest walk focused on lichen ID, ecology, and learning how to spot the incredible diversity hiding in plain sight. No experience needed, just curiosity and good walking shoes ๐ŸŒฟ

Join lichenologist Vivian Miao for an exploration of some of Lynn Canyonโ€™s most fascinating organisms - lichens! A short introduction will be followed by an outdoor, guided exploration of lichens in the park.

Seek out lichen forms such as "British soldiersโ€ and โ€œpeltsโ€ on the ground, โ€œrag" and โ€œbone" lichens on branches of trees and perhaps "flutes" on tree trunks. We may even see the unfortunately named โ€œfairy barfโ€ lichen!

Your feedback is needed! Take the short, 5 minute survey to share your thoughts on the Nature and Biodiversity Strategy within the District of North Vancouver. Survey closes Sunday, May 24.

https://www.dnv.org/community-environment/nature-and-biodiversity-strategy

A big reason people love living here is how close we are to nature. Our forests, streams, and coastline support healthy ecosystems and help shape who we are as a community.

Our Nature and Biodiversity Strategy is all about protecting these natural spaces and making sure they stay strong in the face of climate change. Weโ€™ll do this through smart planning, community stewardship, education, and working together.
