"I work to develop a therapeutic relationship with each person by connecting with them through music,” says Nadine Verboa, a certified music therapist at Youville Home.
Nadine says there are numerous benefits to music therapy, including increased relaxation, self-expression, overall health and well-being and decreased feelings of isolation.
For people who have experienced long-term anxiety, it can be very calming ― they may even feel the positive effects for days after a session.

Music therapy faculty have joined forces this year with music diploma and jazz faculty to promote music training at CapU and the strong link that our 3 programs have. We have shared table space at 4 open houses and career fairs. We so appreciate our colleagues.
We had an amazing time at the Exploring Careers in the Arts event yesterday! Local students learned about our Music Diploma, Music Therapy & Jazz Studies programs at CapU.

It's hard to explain just how much Music Heals Canada has profoundly positively impacted music therapy in B.C. It's also hard to accept to loss of such a generous and impactful person. The entire Cap U music therapy faculty sends our love and deepest condolences to Dave's family and loved ones at this difficult time.
Thank you Dave, so much. For everything.
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our Music Heals Founder and Board President, David Barnett.
David built Music Heals from a deep belief in the power of music to comfort, connect, and heal. Music was not just something he loved; it was how he brought people together. Whether through a shared song, a moment of listening, or an act of service, he had a rare ability to make everyone feel seen and welcome.
His kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others shaped this organization and touched countless lives. The impact of his vision will continue to be felt through every note, every session, and every person we provide with music therapy.
We are profoundly grateful for his leadership, his heart, and the legacy he leaves behind. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time, and we will honour him by carrying his mission forward.

In our humble opinion, music therapy will rock you! As we wind down the semester, here's a little glimpse of the community music making that was on offer in our beautiful music therapy classroom at the Explore CapU event. Big thanks to faculty members Kerry, Eric, and Ian for facilitating the fun! 🎶

Ash, Ferdinand, Neela, Noah, and Tyler spoke with so many prospective music therapy students and their families about the program and what they are learning in their journey to become a music therapist.
