โ€œBut I didnโ€™t do anything wrong!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Can your landlord evict you even if youโ€™ve done nothing wrong?

Sometimes, yes.

There are fault-based and no-fault grounds for ending a tenancy in Ontario. But that doesnโ€™t mean your landlord can simply tell you to leave โ€” there are specific rules, notices, and processes that have to be followed.

If you ever receive an eviction notice, donโ€™t panic. Know your rights and understand what happens next. ๐Ÿ

Did you know your lease doesn't just "expire" when your 12 months are up? ๐Ÿ‘€

In Ontario, if you stay in your unit after your fixed-term lease ends, your tenancy automatically continues on a month-to-month basis โ€” same terms, no new lease required. And your landlord cannot force you to sign a new one ๐Ÿ’™

Swipe to learn what that means for you and what to keep in mind going forward ๐Ÿ‘‰

โœ๏ธ Signing the lease is just one stepโ€”the next is receiving your signed copy.

In Ontario, landlords are required to provide tenants with a signed copy of the lease within 21 days after the tenant signs it.

Your lease outlines important details like the rent amount, whatโ€™s included, and the terms of your tenancy, so be sure to keep a copy for your records.

Thinking about adding an Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU) to your property? ๐Ÿ

An ADU is a secondary dwelling unit on your property โ€” whether that's inside your main home or in an accessory building like a converted garage.

In North Bay's Urban Area, property owners can now have up to 3 ADUs on a single property.

ADU rules and permissions vary by municipality, so make sure to review your local zoning by-laws before moving forward with any plans. If you're in North Bay, visit northbay.ca or contact the City's zoning department for details.
