We are excited to announce that Jaxson O. has been selected to represent St. Mary School as Fire Chief for the Day with the North Battleford Fire Department!

This special opportunity recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding qualities such as kindness, leadership, responsibility, helpfulness, and good citizenship.

Jaxson was nominated for his caring nature, positive attitude, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He is always looking out for his classmates, offering assistance when needed, and showing kindness and respect to those around him. He is a wonderful example of how even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference!

As Fire Chief for the Day, Jaxson will have the exciting opportunity to spend the morning with members of the North Battleford Fire Department, learn about fire safety and the important work firefighters do, and participate in some special Fire Chief activities.

Congratulations, Chief Jaxson! We are so proud of you and know you will represent our wonderfully!

A big thank you to the North Battleford Fire Department for providing this memorable opportunity to recognize students who make a positive difference in their schools and communities.

Parents & Caregivers – we invite you to join us for our upcoming School Community Council (SCC) Meeting on Thursday, October 8 at 6:00 PM in the school library.

Our SCC is a great way for parents and caregivers to become involved in our school community, share ideas, ask questions, and have a voice in supporting the learning and experiences of our students.

Whether you’ve attended meetings before or this would be your first one, everyone is welcome! Come meet other parents, learn more about what is happening at St. Mary School, and let your voice be heard.

A big thank you to Mr. Fauchon from JP2 for joining us today to smudge with our .

Mr. Fauchon is the Grad Coach at the high school, and you can usually find him in the Braided Journeys room. We are so fortunate to have him join us every Tuesday throughout the month of October to offer smudging to our students.

Our intention for this week was:

“As we gather today, we think of all those who are not feeling well. At this time of year, there are many germs and illnesses going around. May those who are sick feel comfort, strength, and healing, and may they feel better soon. May our thoughts bring them care and kindness.”

We had such a wonderful turnout today, and it was beautiful to see so many students taking part. We are grateful for opportunities like these to come together, learn, and care for one another as a school community.

We’re adding a little extra fun to Fire Prevention Week with TWO special Spirit Days!

Tuesday, October 6 – SUPERHERO DAY!
Safe charging is a superpower! Come dressed as your favorite superhero or create your own superhero look.

Friday, October 9 – DRESS LIKE FIRE DAY!
Let’s light up the school! Wear RED, YELLOW & WHITE and help us fill the hallways with the colors of fire.

We can’t wait to see our show their school spirit while learning some important lessons about fire prevention and safety!

🧡Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day are important opportunities to remember, reflect, learn, and honour the truths and experiences of Indigenous peoples, while also celebrating the strength, beauty, and richness of First Nations and Métis cultures.

As there was no school today, we took yesterday to come together in our orange shirts to learn about and reflect on the truth, while celebrating culture and the role we all have in reconciliation.🧡

Students participated in discussions, learning activities, and classroom experiences throughout last week and this week. In the afternoon, some of our students joined Mrs. McRobbie (our Following Their Voices facilitator) to share about their regalia and learn more about smudging. Students then had the opportunity to smudge if they chose.🧡

We ended our day by watching some of our students do what they love — sharing their love of dance with our school community. It was beautiful to watch them share their culture, their joy, and their talents with us.
Today, we encourage everyone to take some time to reflect, learn, listen, and participate in the many Truth and Reconciliation Day activities and events happening throughout our community.🧡

While there are no classes, there are several community events taking place for families who may wish to participate, learn, reflect, and come together in the spirit of truth and reconciliation.
