No school Thursday for Bowerman. Stay safe and we hope to be back to school Friday.

Power has been restored to a vast majority of SPS schools, with the exception of 9 remaining buildings. As a result, SPS will be in session on Thursday, May 1, for the schools where power has been restored. The following 9 buildings will not have school on Thursday due to continued power outages: Boyd Elementary, Bowerman Elementary, Campbell Early Childhood Center, Central High School, Mallory Early Childhood Center, McGregor Elementary, Study High School, Williams Elementary, York Elementary. If your child attends one of these 9 schools then school is canceled for Thursday. At all other schools, seated and virtual classes will be in session and will follow a regular learning schedule.

Due to the Springfield Art Museum being closed for renovations, they brought art to us at Bowerman today! Fifth graders moved through four stations to hear about different art mediums and techniques.

Bowerman Elementary School STARS complete day 1 of their AMI packet tomorrow! Please send in work the day we return to school.

TODAY is CROSSING GUARD APPRECIATION DAY!

Here is one of the two guards who were awarded Crossing Guard of the Year 2025:

Meet Shirley Anderson, who has been a crossing guard for 10 years at Bowerman Elementary School. Rain or shine, she is there to help kids cross. “I know a lot of the kids by name and I love to see them laugh” says Shirley Anderson as turns to cross a group of three young students. Upon returning, she continues: “This work gives me something to look forward to when I get up in the morning. Being retired, helping kids cross keeps me engaged with the community and on a healthy routine. I love it.”

Angela Valchev, the principal at Bowerman feels the award of ‘Crossing Guard of the Year’ is well deserved: I am honored to recognize our incredible school crossing guard, Shirley, whose dedication, and kindness make a difference every day. With a warm smile and unwavering commitment, she ensures the safety of our students, guiding them across the busy street with care and vigilance. Her presence not only protects our children but also fosters a sense of community, reminding us all of the importance of looking out for one another. We sincerely thank Shirley for her service, dedication, and the positive impact she brings to our Bowerman each and every day”
