EMPOWERING INDIGENOUS SUCCESS

Meet Aaron Thomas.

Aaron is from Saulteaux First Nation in Treaty 6 territory. He is 2 years and 10 months sober — and he is building a whole new life on that foundation.

He went and got his license, and now he drives the school bus for his reserve — trusted with the community's kids every single morning.

He is also back in school at NorthWest College in North Battleford, earning his Grade 12. Why? Because he has plans. He wants to become a certified mechanic. And he wants to fly a plane — not to become a pilot, just because he has always wanted to know what it feels like to fly.

He is not waiting for opportunity to find him. He is creating it, one step at a time.

What he loves most is being a sober father to his kids — present, steady, and proud of the new life he has created.

In his own words: "Through the traditional powers of my ancestors, my mindset is stronger than my addiction."

That is what empowering Indigenous success looks like.
