Black Gold is happy to welcome Heather Derksen to the division - and to the role of Assistant Principal at École Beau Meadow School.

Heather is coming to Black Gold from Elk Island Public Schools where she served as a school counsellor. She says in that role she "enjoyed many opportunities to walk alongside students as they navigated challenges, discovered their strengths, and celebrated their successes."

She says, "I am excited to meet all of the students, families and colleagues that make EBMS such a special school."

Heather enjoys making pottery and spends as much times as possible playing with the clay. She also loves skiing, camping, and exploring nature with her husband, three teens, and their dog Benji.

Her favorite TV shows include "The Good Place", "Schitt's Creek", and "Ted Lasso" where "the characters growth centers around themes of connection, empathy and resilience - and especially when they also make us laugh."

Continuing our introduction of administrators who are new to their role this fall, we want to introduce Kendall Watson as an Assistant Principal at École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School.

Kendall joins the ESBCHS team after having served as Assistant Principal of École J. E. Lapointe School in Beaumont. Kendall says she has enjoyed connecting with students outside of the classroom, and being part of their journey towards success - be it academic, athletic, social, or through leadership opportunities.

She is looking forward to the challenge of "making connections with students and staff in a large learning environment" at ESBCHS this fall.

When she isn't at school Kendall likes spending time at karate, and with her family.

Kendall's favorite movie is Gladiator (2000) and the quote "are you not entertained?" "There is something remarkable about someone taking charge of their life despite the tragedy or defeat earlier in their life story," she says.

Kendall grew up in Beaumont and has spent her whole life there. "I am privileged to work, grow and play in the community that helped shape me," says Kendall.

Welcome to ESBCHS in your new role, Kendall!

Welcome to Trish Hrytsak, who will be rejoining the École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School as Assistant Principal.

Trish has been serving as Assistant Principal of Thorsby Jr / Sr. High School, and has deeply appreciated the strength of the community. "Working with parents and students to ensure that students can work to their potential has provided so many rewards along the way," she says.

Trish is excited to return to Beaumont after a seven year absence. "I am looking forward to getting to know how Beaumont has grown, and to working on a team of talented administrators."

Outside of school, Trish enjoys travelling, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and going exploring on her kayak. Her favourite movie is Steel Magnolias as it showcases strong women from a lot of different perspectives.

Welcome back to ESBCHS, Trish!

A big welcome to Ian Tisdale, as he joins the Black Gold community, as Principal at Calmar Secondary Collegiate School.

Ian comes to Black Gold from Wolf Creek School Division, and having served as Principal of the BRICK Learning Centre in Ponoka. He has enjoyed working with students from a wide range of backgrounds, and helping them achieve success - and most notably graduation.

He is excited to connect with the community of Calmar - and work with staff, students, and families to "find success in the pathways that suit them best", he says.

Ian says, "while I enjoy travelling, camping, hiking, biking, playing guitar, and reading, doing all of it with my family is absolutely my favorite thing."

His favourite book is "The Eagle has Landed". Ian's favourite quote is “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care."

Ian says, "I am a very relational driven person. My door is always open, and I am always happy to work with students and families to find ways to build success."

Welcome, Ian, to Black Gold and to CSCS!
