Today we celebrate the 60th World Teachers' Day. This important milestone offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the teaching profession while renewing a collective commitment to the rights, status, professional autonomy, working conditions, and wellbeing of teachers worldwide.

The theme this year is Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status, and Shaping Our Futures.

As teacher shortages worsen, public education systems come under increasing pressure, and educators face growing professional challenges, World Teachers’ Day 2026 is a timely moment to advocate for the policies and investments needed to strengthen the profession and guarantee every learner's right to quality education.

We thank our members for their daily work in Niagara classrooms. Their dedication to making a difference in the lives of students benefits Niagara's families and communities!

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a solemn day to honour the survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities, and to remember the thousands of children who never returned home. Reconciliation starts with learning the truth. It is a time to reflect on the historical and ongoing impacts of the residential school system, listen to Indigenous voices, and commit to meaningful action. Reconciliation is not a single day of reflection, but a continuous, year-round responsibility for all of us.

The last Wednesday of September is dedicated to raising awareness about concussion safety in sports. Join us in honoring Rowan Stringer’s memory by learning the signs of a concussion and speaking up when in doubt.

When in doubt, sit them out.
