The Martial Arts Center

REMINDER: Our summer break is next week. Classes will resume on Monday August 24th.

At The Martial Arts Center, our Kobudo program offers the opportunity to learn traditional Okinawan weaponry. We're fortunate to bring this amazing art to the Niagara.

Since joining the OKDR, we’ve had the privilege of learning from skilled teachers and even had the opportunity to train in Okinawa, Japan. The last photo features our Chief Instructor, Sensei Joey Jackson, practicing Kobudo at the Okinawa Prefectural Budokan in Okinawa.

Through training, you’ll not only build skills in this martial art but also explore its rich history and cultural significance.

We had a great July. Sensei Mike and Sensei Laura Swywk were in the dojo for a weekend seminar. Thank you for travelling to Niagara.

This past weekend, Sensei and Senpai Jackson were away at the Summer Training Festival in Kingston. On Sunday, Sensei taught a great drill focusing on stances. It was an incredible weekend of training and meeting new people!

It’s June!!

This month in Karate, we will be continuing our work with the Drills and Oyo from Taira Sensei. Our kids and teens will keep up their work on sparring and self-defense.

In Kobudo, we will continue our training with 2-person Bo Hojo Undo & Yobi Undo. Our junior belts will be focusing on their Hojo Undo. We will also be holding a Kobudo grading this month. A date will be announced in class and posted online!
