The cost for “Experienced Members”, friends and partners of “New Members” is $40.00. We held a BEE-UTIFUL AGM meeting and luncheon on May 14/26 at the Doubletree Resort and Hotel in Niagara Falls. The theme for the luncheon was from the PAC group who are focusing on ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS. In lieu of gift cards as door prizes, we put together 10 BEE BUCKETS with various Bee products to send the message of how vital BEES are to us and the survival of our planet.
There are so many members to thank for their help in planning and organizing the event. Thank you to Brian Carty and Marion Woodcock at the registration table.
Thank you to Margo Halfyard for introducing the speaker as well as overseeing the various displays. Thanks to Sue Hotte, a member of District 14 Niagara PAC, for her informative display demonstrating the dynamic work of the NIAGARA HEALTH COALITION who work tirelessly on behalf of all citizens of the Niagara Region. They are relentless in holding the health system accountable for the state of our hospitals, Emergency Room and Long-term care facilities.
We appreciated the help of Judith Delahunt who procured the SENIORS booklets from Jenny Stevens MP. Chereen Osborne, Luba Beange and Susana Nagy presented the IN-MEMORIAM with a display candles, framed presentation of names as well as an IN-MEMORIAM slideshow.
Chereen Osborne as Past President introduced the Executive/Board volunteers for 2025-2026. Elections were held and followed by the introduction of the new volunteers for 2026-2027. Congratulations to Susana Nagy as the new President of District 14 Niagara.
Lorraine Knowles, a member of Entente’s Board of Directors, addressed the members with sincerity and concern, acknowledging the difficulties they experienced during the transition from the previous benefits administrator to the current one. She emphasized that the Board fully recognized the frustration, uncertainty, and inconvenience members had encountered, and that it had focused its collective efforts on addressing the various issues as quickly and effectively as possible. Ms. Knowles also noted that the Board was working on plans to help ensure that similar problems would not arise in the future. Through these sustained efforts, the Board has demonstrated both its commitment to its members and its ability to respond decisively, and we can now see that it has been extremely successful in resolving the challenges associated with the transition.
Our guest speaker, Michael Prentice from the Foundation, did a slide presentation on all the great projects being organized in Ontario and the Niagara Region with the funds raised through charitable donations from our members. It is very impressive to see what can be accomplished when we work together. It makes us all proud to belong to an organization with such a big generous heart.
Our donation canisters collected $300 which we donated to the Foundation. We urge you to send in your own personal contributions to support our very own FOUNDATION.
Finally, thank you to all the members of Entente District 14 Niagara for attending our meetings and luncheons. We NEED all of you to keep our organization growing and thriving.

Wednesday, August 19 saw us have a delightful day of fellowship and laughs. We enjoyed a great hearty lunch at Smokin' Buddha in Port Colborne. After lunch a short drive we went to the Roselawn Theatre to see the Lighthouse Festival performance of Liars at a Funeral. With 5 actors playing 2 roles each, and continuous costume changes, it was hilarious. It is amazing what effort someone would go through to reunite family. Another delightful day out with strangers who are now friends. Please come and join this fun loving group whenever possible.

On June 24, 2026, we attended Entente District-14 Niagara’s Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at Johnny Rocco’s in St. Catharines. There was a lot of camaraderie, laughter, and a great meal provided. A sincere thank you to each and every volunteer. Their hard work, dedication, and generosity of time and talent keep our organization strong and our community enriched. Whether they’re helping behind the scenes, greeting guests at our events, supporting our advertised events, writing birthday and Christmas cards, or stepping up wherever needed, their efforts do not go unnoticed. They are the heart of this District, and we are truly grateful for all that they do. May we be blessed with many more years of reaping the fruits of their labor and we look forward to others who would like to be part of these amazing committees.

All pastries and specialty cakes were imaginatively created and baked by Chef Pradeep Dharmawardane. Before our desserts we enjoyed as well as the delicious lunches including avocado toast, breakfast and ham and cheese sandwiches, salmon croissant, and our amazing Chef even catered to our siliac member preparing her a most delicious gluten free English muffin filled with goodies that she could have and a salad. Chef Pradeep came out of his kitchen long enough to chat with us, which added a friendly and homey touch to our event.

Lunch Club Visits Butler’s Sports Bar and Grill on August 10, 2026
Many tables were pulled together at Butler’s to accommodate a large group of hungry retirees as our Entente Lunch Club visited the popular sports bar in early August. Butler’s is located in picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake where it has been a favorite destination for over 30 years.
We were surrounded by a myriad of tv screens as we settled in to make our selections from the diverse offerings featured in the menu. While waiting for the arrival of our menu choices we were entertained by icebreakers from our Lunch Club coordinator Susana. They’re a fun way of getting to know each other. The Yes/No game asked participants to answer Y/N to an assortment of intriguing questions with the winner having the most Y’s (Irmgard).
The lunch itself was excellent and well worth the jaunt. The soup of the day was Creamy Chowder. Popular choices included the Smoked Turkey Sammy, Avocado Chicken Wrap, Press Box Salad and the Philly Steak. For the more adventurous, how about that Jalapeno Bacon Cheesy Burger? The next time we visit I would like to try their Margarita or Tuscan pizza baked in a Naples style wood fire oven imported from Italy !
To finish off our luncheon adventure we had a delicious dessert with a twist! We could choose a slice of scrumptious cherry or blueberry pie baked by our very own leader, Susana. But first, we had to offer the correct answer to a tricky riddle. Everyone managed to win a piece! We are all looking forward to future monthly luncheons as advertised in our Grapevine newsletter. Newcomers are always welcome to join in.

On one of the warmest days of July (the 13th of July to be precise), a group of our members came to lunch at The Watering Can Bistro in Vineland. The bistro is inside a gardening store. Very interesting walking among all the plants to get to the tables. The service was prompt and friendly. I had the vegetarian option (avocado sandwich and salad) - yummy!!! Others had the gazpacho, flatbread, or other types of sandwiches. Each meal looked delicious. We even played a couple of games. Chereen won the first one. The riddle game was hard even though the riddles were supposed to be easy. I was able to answer only one question. At the end of the meal, everyone seemed to have enjoyed the excursion. Just waiting for the next luncheon date.

On this very rainy day (June 25), our Lunch Club met at The Rex, in Welland. Although only eight of us met for lunch, we made up for it in laughter, sharing stories, and getting to know each other better. Beside all the friendly banter, we also enjoyed our very own amazingly tasting pizzas. Our members played some games and got some yummy prizes. No one ordered dessert!
