Today, the Douglas Students Union presented at the Select Standing Committee on Finance to give recommendations for the upcoming 2027 BC Budget.

Institutions’ budgets are in the red, programs + services are being cut, and layoffs are happening all over the province. The sector needs an immediate re-investment of 200 million so that rising costs and inflation are not downloaded onto the backs of already struggling students and their families!

🧡 Today we wear the moose hide to take a stand against gender-based violence, especially violence faced by Indigenous women, children, and Two-Spirit people.

The has been an active campaign and important initiative on our campuses since 2020, creating space for learning, healing, and action. From handing out pins and tabling with information to collaborating with and raising the Moose Hide flag, we continue to say: Enough is enough.

The Moose Hide pin is more than a symbol. It’s a commitment.

Stop by the New Wes Concourse & COQ AB Atrium today to learn more, get a moose hide pin, and register for today’s workshops.🧡

Today, May 5, is Red Dress Day — the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S)

Started in 2010 by Métis artist Jaime Black, the REDress Project uses empty red dresses displayed in public spaces to symbolize the lives taken and the loved ones left behind. These dresses are a powerful visual reminder of the ongoing violence faced by Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people across Canada.

We honour their memory, demand justice, and commit to action. 🟥
