Spring RhythmDance Classes in Nelson
Two classes to choose from:
RhythmDance Drum Corps
Mondays 5pm-6pm @ 10th St. Chapel at Tenth Street Campus
This class will focus on building drumming, percussion, stick, rhythmic and timing skills and will also incorporate movement and choreo. Previous experience helpful but not required.
April 7 - May 12 Cost: $135, early bird pricing (register before April 3).

RhythmDance Basic Essentials
Thursdays 6pm-7pm @ 10th St. Chapel at Tenth Street Campus
This class will focus on basics of movement, timing, drum and dance choreo as well as percussion toys and dance props. Perfect for beginners to pros.
April 10 - May 15 Cost: $135, early bird pricing (register before April 3).

Born of artistic director Marilyn Hatfields's passion to share the magic and joy of rhythm and dance with all, RhythmDance Orchestra delivers a dynamic synthesis of timeless sounds and lively movements.

"Enrolling in a semester of African dance in college inspired me to pivot my life 180 degrees, leave school and follow my heart to California where I began the very serious and dedicated study of west African drum and dance and other global arts for the next two decades. I studied djembe and dundun drumming and the accompanying traditional dance with renowned masters: Abdoulaye Diakite, Alhassane Kahn, Mandjou Kone, Mamady Keita and Koumbana Konde among many others throughout the western US and w. Africa, traveling with my teachers to their villages in countries such as: Senegal, Guinea, Gambia, Mali and Burkina Faso to immerse myself in the culture, language and the traditional music and dance. With the blessings of my teachers I have performed and taught these vibrant rhythms and dances for many years now, and the years of serious, dedicated and respectful study of traditional global drumming and dance arts has deepened my understanding that rhythm and movement are the most basic components of our lives - our every movement has rhythm- and flows within each of us. In the spirit of honouring all my teachers who have blessed me with sharing their music and culture, I also developed my own original compositions and choreography into what I call RhythmDance, a blend of drumming, percussion and dance. With a passionate understanding that Rhythm IS life, RhythmDance is a vessel to guide people of all ages and backgrounds to tap into their own inner rhythmic power and discover the magic and joy of music and movement."
