WE REALLY NEED YOU! BUILDING A PLAYGROUND ON CAMAS AREA!

Hello KNPS friends
kNPS just received a map for a playground development to be constructed this summer in Millennium Park from Travis Christianson, Manager of Engineering & Infrastructure, City of Castlegar. We took the liberty of overlaying the proposed area onto our camas distribution map so you can see clearly the devastation that would result to the existing camas populations in the park. See below.

KNPS has sent an email back expressing its deep disappointment and frustration, and said that we would be contacting Mayor and Council immediately to have the location of the playground moved. Chris Barlow (Chief Administrative Officer) and Michael Gagnier (Civic Works Operations Manager) were included in this email string.

We would love to hear your ideas and your willingness to help us pull together a massive effort in response to this news.

This cannot occur. A cut this big won't be easy to heal, if at all. We are sickened, we are worried, and we are heartbroken. In the words of Amelia Marchand, Program Director for the Environmental Trust Department (ETD), Colville Confederated Tribes (included on this email): "...*the continued destruction and loss of this iconic Sinixt cultural food should no longer occur. ...all itxwa habitat should be protected in perpetuity*"

For the camas, itxwa,
thank you, limlmtx,

KNPS
