Nelson’s own Special Olympics champions, Kingsley Deighton and Jiri Kalabis, had a fantastic weekend in Kimberley at the Regional Qualifiers on February 28th!

Kingsley and Jiri represented both Nelson Special Olympics and the Whitewater Ski Team with determination and great sportsmanship. Both athletes had strong performances on the hill, with Kingsley taking home 1st place in Intermediate Slalom and Giant Slalom and Jiri earning 3rd place in Intermediate Giant Slalom.

Their performances have put them in a strong position heading toward the Provincial Games next year. Huge congratulations to both athletes for their hard work and success, and a big thank you to everyone who supports inclusive sport in our community.
Dream big. Work hard. Believe. ⛷️👏

An especially large thank you to Whitewater Mountain Resort, Village Ski Hut and The Whitewater ski team!

Dream big. Work hard. Believe. ⛷️👏

Most of all, thank you to our athletes who love to stay active, show up to every practice, create the best bonds of friendship and sportsmanship and never give up.
Next time you see one of the athletes- ask them about their sport passion- you'll want to know more!

Come cheer on our athletes or join us in Part 2 of this event- The POLAR PLUNGE- MARCH 8TH AT NOON, AT LAKESIDE PARK as we dip into the chilly water of Kooteany Lake.
