Halfway through our Summer Preschool Program already! 🌿☀️
The weeks have been filled with painting rocks, checking on our growing sunflowers, weaving spider webs from sticks, creek adventures, fort building, music, storytelling, and plenty of imaginative play in the mud kitchen. The children also discovered edible wood sorrel and continued building their connection with the forest through curiosity, creativity, and play. 🍃
Thank you, Nicole, for a wonderful few weeks so far. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store! 💛

One year ago! 🤯
We stopped talking about a dream and went for it. Quit our jobs, shuffled things around, and took a risk. We were/are learning as we go along. We had a lot of encouragement and support from family and friends ❤️ And a healthy dose of skepticism 😅... Only made us more determined and motivated. Some of these photos show the earliest days - it was a family affair! Many long days in the forest, the kids playing and eager to help. We are so grateful to the families who shared our vision and have trusted us, and their children, from the very beginning 🌲🌲🌲
Thank you to B.A. Built for designing and building us an off-grid cabin without any hesitation !

“It does help to remember what you noticed as a child,” says forest therapy guide Janice Bina-Smith.
In this evocative passage excerpted from his new book, “Noticing,” author and Children & Nature Network co-founder Richard Louv explores the practice of forest bathing (shinrin-yoku).
Nature immersion boasts strong medical backing, with studies showing it lowers blood pressure and floods the body with stress-reducing organic compounds called phytoncides.
Louv illustrates how slowing down in the outdoors awakens a “storm of noticing,” offering a powerful, accessible pathway for healing and self-reflection.

"Forest bathing, also known as shinrin-yoku, originated in 1982 when Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries observed that office workers felt better when they were outdoors in a natural environment. Consequently, the department started recommending nature immersion to its employees. Researchers found that after employees spent time in forests, their blood pressure decreased; their number of killer cells, a type of white blood cell that attacks tumors or cells infected with a virus, increased; and their immune system became stronger."
“The Forest is the Therapist.” On the Art of Noticing
Near the summit of Volcan Mountain, Janice Bina-Smith sits with a group of us in a circle on crunching oak leaves. The red ants don’t seem to be in a biting mood. Patches of sky above are clear. Gu…
