A crew of our very own CUPE 606 Ladysmith Firefighters headed into the Interior to support the ongoing wildfire efforts.

They’ll be working alongside teams from Oyster River, Duncan, Courtenay, Sechelt, and Malahat to support the BC Wildfire response— a powerful reminder that communities truly rise together.

Their commitment extends far beyond our own borders. They show up for neighbours across the province, every time, without hesitation.

Recently, CUPE 606’s own president, Jeff Virtanen, presented to a committee of MLAs who are traveling the province gathering input for next year’s provincial budget.

Jeff spoke with passion and clarity, advocating for increased K–12 funding, publicly delivered childcare, and addressing the violence in classrooms that our EAs continue to face.

CUPE 606 wishes to extend their heartfelt congratulations to those in receipt of CUPE 606's Bursaries.

CUPE 606 is honored to give four, $1000.00 each bursaries to the successful candidates.

Last week, CUPE 606 had the pleasure of joining in on a very special celebration — a retirement party honouring several of our long‑serving members.

We were proud to show up, share in the joy, and thank each retiree for their years of dedication. Wishing each of them the very best in this next chapter of life.
