Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation

From the warehouse to the kitchen, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes to help get food where it’s needed across the District.

It takes a community to keep these programs running, and we’re so grateful for everyone who helps make it possible!

What is Food4Schools? 🍎

Food4Schools helps schools provide food to students every day, supporting breakfast, lunch and snack programs across the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District.

Almost 2,100 students participate in school meals programs supported by NLSF. We work closely with school staff to make sure food is available where it’s needed, with enough for anyone who needs it and inclusive options that work for different students and schools.

Behind the scenes, there’s a whole community making it happen, from food donors and local vendors to volunteers, school staff and community supporters. Together, we’re helping ensure students have access to food so they can focus on what matters: learning, growing and thriving.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to listen, learn and reflect on the lasting impact of residential schools and honour the resilience of Survivors, their families and communities.

At NLSF, we remain committed to learning and walking the path of truth and reconciliation together.

Our office will be closed on September 30th in recognition of this day.

A scholarship can be so much more than financial support. It can be part of a much bigger story.

For one of our scholarship recipients, the impact of a great teacher inspired them to pursue a career in education themselves. Now, as they head to university, this scholarship is helping make that next step a little more possible.

One teacher inspired a student. That student hopes to inspire the next generation. And with the support of our generous donors, that ripple effect can continue.

We’re so grateful to be part of these stories and excited to see where this next chapter takes them. ✨

We’re signing scholarship cheques for local students heading off to post secondary! While the cheques may be going out the door, the impact goes so much further. Helping students take their next step, pursue their goals and invest in their future.

A huge thank you to our generous donors who make these opportunities possible. Your support helps local students move closer to the futures they’re working toward.
To every student receiving a scholarship, we’re cheering you on! ✨

Meet Kim Strynadka, NLSF Board Member & Scholarship Donor for 10 years!

We’re so grateful to have Kim as part of the NLSF family. Here’s a little more about her and why this work means so much to her:

🎓 Her NLSF journey: Kim first became involved by creating an award in memory of her mom. Being able to honour her mom while helping a student inspired Kim to get even more involved and eventually join the NLSF Board.

🏡 Outside of NLSF: After more than 25 years as a mortgage broker and business owner in Nanaimo, Kim is now semi-retired and enjoying travelling, yoga, pickleball, learning Spanish and, of course, trying to retire! 😉

🌊 Her Nanaimo happy place: Anywhere near the water!

🤝 What she loves about Nanaimo: The generosity of our community. Nanaimo really shows up when someone needs help and Kim has seen that firsthand through NLSF.

We’re so thankful for Kim’s dedication, generosity and heart for local students. 💙

A little look back at the Bright Futures Customer Appreciation BBQ on August 26th! ☀️

A huge thank you to Iconix Waterworks for bringing our community together and for creating the Bright Futures Meal Program to support organizations working hard to provide nourishing school meal programs across Vancouver Island.

We’re so grateful to be part of this initiative alongside incredible community partners, all working toward the same goal: helping students have reliable access to food so they can learn, grow and thrive.

Thank you, Iconix, for supporting local students and the work being done in our communities!

🚐✨ Big news for Food4Schools!

We’re excited to share a first look at our new NLSF delivery van — the next step in strengthening how we support students across our community. 💙

This van will soon be fully branded and outfitted with racking and refrigeration, helping us safely and efficiently deliver food to schools throughout Nanaimo and Ladysmith.

Every upgrade like this means more reliable deliveries, fresher food, and ultimately more students supported each day. 🍎🥪

Thank you to our incredible community and partners who make growth like this possible — we can’t wait to get this van on the road!
