Supporting local students can be as simple as adding a donation to your next purchase! If you’re out and about in Nanaimo, you can support Stock the Lockers through point of sale donations at these community locations:

📍Country Grocer [Bowen Road + Chase River]
📍Thrifty Foods [Port Place]
📍Coastal Community Credit Union

And if you’d rather donate from home, you can give directly online at nlsf.ca.

We’re in the final weeks of Stock the Lockers, with the campaign wrapping up September 15! Thank you to everyone who has supported local students so far.

The impact of Stock the Lockers goes much deeper than the supplies we see being donated. Behind the school supplies is a student who may be facing barriers we don't always see.

As shared by a Child & Youth Family Support Worker at John Barsby Community School, the support provided through Stock the Lockers can make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and families.

It's not just about having the right supplies for the first day of school. It's about helping students feel supported, included, prepared and ready to learn.

Stock the Lockers runs until September 15. Learn more and find out how you can help at nlsf.ca.

We’ve put together an example of what a student supply pack could look like and it’s a great reminder that you don’t have to donate a lot to make an impact!

Meet Jen Warman, NLSF Board Member!

We’re shining a spotlight on the people behind the Nanaimo Ladysmith Schools Foundation and giving you a chance to get to know our board members beyond their work with NLSF.

Here’s a little bit about Jen:

📌 Her role: Board Member with NLSF

💼 Her work: Senior Client Executive in commercial insurance, specializing in nonprofit organizations that serve vulnerable populations.

🌿 Her favourite local spot: Bowen Park, a place she loves for its trails, scenery and peaceful connection to nature.

📚 Her school connection: Jen attended Nanaimo schools from Kindergarten through university and credits many of her teachers at Departure Bay and Wellington for having a lasting impact on her life.

💙 What she loves about our community: The genuine kindness of the people who live here and their willingness to help others.

🥖 Her happy place: A kitchen filled with the smell of fresh baking or a busy weekend at her farm stand. She loves the simple connections that happen when people gather around good food and community.

We’re so grateful to have Jen bringing her experience, heart, and passion for community to the NLSF board!

Give Jen a 👋 in the comments!

🚐✨ Big news for Food4Schools!

We’re excited to share a first look at our new NLSF delivery van — the next step in strengthening how we support students across our community. 💙

This van will soon be fully branded and outfitted with racking and refrigeration, helping us safely and efficiently deliver food to schools throughout Nanaimo and Ladysmith.

Every upgrade like this means more reliable deliveries, fresher food, and ultimately more students supported each day. 🍎🥪

Thank you to our incredible community and partners who make growth like this possible — we can’t wait to get this van on the road!

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who make everything we do possible 💚

From our dedicated board members to our hands-on event volunteers, to the amazing individuals supporting our kitchen and Food4Schools program — you are the heart of NLSF.

Because of you, thousands of students in our community are supported every single day. Your time, energy, and care truly make a difference, and we are so grateful.

As Fred Rogers so beautifully said, “Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero to me.” — and that’s exactly what you are to us.

Thank you for showing up, for giving back, and for helping us build a stronger, more supported community for our students.
