VIU trades and tech programs are inviting everyone to check out career opportunities at two events this week.
The showcase event in VIU’s Trades Discovery Centre on Saturday, May 3 will give people an opportunity to try their hand at operating a mini excavator, flavour their own kettle chips, try a welding simulator, build a wood planter and fill it with strawberry plants or even taste liquid nitrogen ice cream, plus much more. Thursday and Friday local high school students have been invited to get in the cab of some big and small machinery at Heavy Metal Rocks at the university’s training site in Cassidy.

It's happening! What you have hoped, wished for, wrote in about, is finally happening. We are putting in traffic lights at the Fifth and Bruce intersection! 🎉 No longer will you have to think about who gets to go first. Hint, it's the vehicle to your right, unless you arrived at the intersection first. 🚧 Construction is starting on Monday (July 10), so expect disruptions and give yourself extra time on your commute. Making Indigenous youth feel like they belong at university is the goal of a free, 7-day summer camp taking place at VIU this August. “The biggest thing about this camp is to get Indigenous youth thinking about post-secondary."
