This week, our toddlers at one of our Townsite programs explored color mixing through hands-on water play. The children enjoyed experimenting, making discoveries, and watching new colors appear right before their eyes.

Play is so much more than fun and games. It’s how children explore the world, build friendships, solve problems, express creativity, and learn new skills every day. Some of the most important learning happens when children are busy playing.

At Katies Korner Childcare, we’re proud to create spaces where children can learn, grow, and discover through play.

Today, the teams from Katies Korner Childcare, Playtime Childcare Society, Mid-Island Childcare, and Jolly Giant Childcare came together for a full day of learning, sharing ideas, and investing in what matters most, supporting children.

We kicked off the morning with a fantastic session on active play and the many ways movement can be woven into everyday learning. From creating inviting play spaces to building stronger relationships through play, our educators explored practical ideas that can be brought right into our programs. There was plenty of discussion, reflection, and a few moments that reminded us just how powerful play really is.

In the afternoon, we were joined by the Occupational Therapy Department from the Nanaimo Child Development Centre. Staff learned about supporting children’s development through movement, play-based activities, fine and gross motor skill development, self-regulation, independence, and recognizing when a child may benefit from additional support. It was packed with helpful strategies, hands-on ideas, and plenty of takeaways that will support our work with children every day.

One of the best parts of days like these is the opportunity to connect with colleagues across all three organizations. There is always something special about bringing passionate educators together in one room to learn from experts and from each other.

A big thank you to our presenters for sharing their knowledge and to our incredible staff for showing up with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to continuous learning. The children in our care benefit from that dedication every single day, and we couldn’t be prouder of our teams. ❤️

In honour of ECE Appreciation Month, our companies Katies Korner Childcare, Playtime Childcare Society, and Jolly Giant Childcare wanted to do something special to celebrate the incredible educators and staff who make our centers such caring, fun, and welcoming places each day.

Today, we celebrated our amazing teams with a sweet treat from our favorite Ice Cream Truck 🍪🍦🍪

The truck stopped by each location to help us celebrate the hardworking staff who do so much for the children and families in our care.

A huge thank you to Onecoolcookie for helping us provide this special treat for our staff for the 3rd consecutive year.

We are so grateful for our wonderful teams and all the care, patience, laughter, and heart they bring every single day 💜

Happy Mother’s Day 💐

Today we’re celebrating the love, care, and support that mothers and mother figures give every single day.

To the grandmas, stepmoms, aunties, guardians, and chosen family members who help raise and care for little ones, we celebrate you too.

We hope today brings a little extra appreciation, some time to relax, and lots of love!

Today we’re celebrating the incredible educators who spend their days tying shoes, wiping tears, answering 47 questions before 9am, and somehow still finding the energy to sing songs, read stories, and make every child feel safe and cared for.

Early Childhood Educators do so much more than people often see. They help build confidence, curiosity, friendships, and the little moments that shape childhood in such a big way.

To our amazing team, thank you for your patience, your creativity, your humour, and the care you bring every single day. What you do matters, and we appreciate you more than words can say.
