VIU has reached a significant financial milestone – a balanced budget. And the institution is on track for continued financial stability over the next three years.
“The balanced budget is a result of deliberate, strategic action and it reflects hard work by VIU employees. This didn’t happen by accident,” said Dr. Dennis Johnson, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor. “The operational changes we’ve made ensure strong financial footing for the future.”

We are especially grateful to student speakers Cadence and Harold for sharing their stories and perspectives with such authenticity and heart.
A special thank you as well to Lee Rowley, Chair of the Board, for taking the lead in organizing and hosting this meaningful event.
It was wonderful to gather with students, supporters, and members of the VIU community to hear from Interim President Dr. Dennis Johnson and celebrate the collective impact of coming together in support of students and the future of Vancouver Island University.
The evening created a positive and inspiring space for connection, reflection, and shared commitment to student success. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, our Ripples of Change campaign has raised more than $1 million to remove financial barriers for students. For Harold Chandra, that support means a second chance and a future focused on helping others.
“People do not need perfection to change their lives. They need opportunity, support and someone to believe in them.”

“Receiving this award means I have less to worry about and I’m less stressed about getting an extracurricular job, which allows me to focus more on my homework. In education, we have practicum placements, and this is the first year I have a classroom by myself. It has given me more time to spend in my practicum becoming a better teacher, but also to volunteer at the school. I was able to help out with the girls’ volleyball team.”
