Pegamigaabo Elementary School Fish Derby Pegamigaabo Elementary Schools fish derby! Founded by John Gibbins in 2012. He did a great job organ Every year the derby has become more of a success.

John started the fish derby as a fundraiser for the community school, Pegamigaabo Elementary, in Big Grassy F.N., ON, in 2012. He wanted the children of the school to have what they needed, and for the school to succeed. When he passed suddenly in 2014, the derby became a memorial fish derby in 2015. More people, whether they are familiar or new faces, come out each year for a fun day of fishing,

in hopes of winning that Walleye Champ title. The prize money is just a bonus. So, come on out and enjoy yourselves each family day, and make this a tradition. The derby is always tons of fun. The coordinators and volunteers (family members of John, Pegamigaabo staff, and various community members) always make you feel welcome and try to help out as much as they can.

Pegimagaabo School would like to thank everyone for coming out and spending their family day with us. It was yet another great turnout. 407 registered fishermen/women/children! It was cold, and slushy, but everyone made it work, and had fun.

We will be drawing a iPad for all the registered children, 12 and under, after the Childrens derby.

Also, Zigs place still has early bird and raffle tickets. He is accepting EMT. Early birds are only on sale until 4:00pm today! So get yours now, for a chance to be entered to win an Ice Auger!

Last year, the community lost a young man, Birdy Major. A loving, caring, adventurous soul. He attended our elementary school as a child, and fished the derby himself. This year, Pegamigaabo would like to honor him and continue on the derby, that John started back in 2012, in memory of Birdy. The derby is the usual Family Day. This year it lands on February 18, 2019. Come out and fish with us, and enjoy your day with family and friends. This derby is always tons of fun, whether it's raining, cold, or a beautiful day. Can't wait to see new and familiar faces!
