👇Building Tomorrow Workforce The OETIO has been in operation since 1982.

This world class training institute offers crane operator, heavy equipment operator, and construction safety training programs in support of the construction industry. The OETIO provides training from two primary campuses in Ontario. The Morrisburg campus, in eastern Ontario, delivers heavy equipment operator training and also serves as the design, development and administrative center of the OETIO. The Oakville campus, a new modern facility co-located with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793 headquarters (IUOE), opened in January of 2006 as the center for crane operator training. Both campuses also provide a wide range of construction safety courses in support of the industry requirements.

Some behind-the-scenes footage from our Oakville Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario (OETIO) campus of members of the Durham Regional Police Service Tactical Support Unit using our cranes to hone the skills that will save lives and protect the public during emergencies at heights.

DRPS isn’t the only police force in the GTA to take advantage of our training sites. Last year, the Peel Regional Police Service came out to use our site for similar training.

We’re proud to provide emergency responders with access to our training grounds, whether it’s firefighters, police or paramedics; we have deep appreciation for the difficult and dangerous work they do.

OETIO welcomed the first class of apprentices to our Oro-Medonte training facility this week. Apprentices will complete levels 2,3 and 4 at the new facility.

We will continue to expand our world-class training facilities across Ontario to ensure more young people than ever before have the opportunity to build a rewarding career as an Operating Engineer.

Today, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

We stand united to remember the children, families, and communities who were impacted by the residential school system. Orange Shirt Day is a powerful reminder that every child matters. It’s a day to reflect, learn, and support healing for the Indigenous communities affected by this painful history.

On this day, all 793 and OETIO staff and apprentices wear orange shirts to show solidarity, promote awareness, and encourage open conversations about reconciliation.

Let’s wear orange with pride and keep the spirit of this day alive in our hearts. Together, we can make a difference and continue the journey toward healing and understanding. 🧡

It was a pleasure to recently welcome back the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) to Oakville, who used our grounds and cranes to put 6 new members of their Tactical Support Unit (TSU) through an intensive training course.

The TSU, who also ran a program at our campus last year, are trained to be proficient with rappel operations to ensure officers are ready to respond to any emergency - no matter how far off the ground it occurs!

In 2025, Peel Regional Police’s Tactical and Rescue Unit also ran a training course at our campus. We are proud to play a role in helping these local heroes better protect our communities, and support the difficult and dangerous job they do. 👮‍♀️🚓

The Ribbon Cutting at our new regional office and training centre in Oro-Medonte has been set for Friday, September 18th at 12:30 pm.

The 21,000 sq. ft. complex on 20 acres includes a state-of-the-art training facility, fully equipped banquet hall, and office space for both the Union and the Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario (OETIO). It will allow us to provide a hub for our members as well as to expand our world class training delivery to develop the skills of existing members and to produce the next generation of Operating Engineers.

The centre is located northeast of Barrie off of Highway 11, at 1 Holick Road, Oro-Medonte.
