We are proud to serve 5000+ students within 17 schools in Sturgeon County and surrounding areas. Student success is the focus of our educational programs.

Sturgeon Public Schools has a long history of outstanding education along with a strong sense of community. We are proud of the welcoming atmosphere that exists at our schools. This creates a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable and safe and parents are encouraged to get involved. In addition to continuing success in provincial achievement tests and diploma exams, many of our students are rewarded with the Alexander Rutherford scholarships. Students in our vocational programs also achieve high levels of success, winning top honours in local, provincial and national competitions. Sturgeon Public graduates are prepared to excel at post-secondary institutions and in their future careers. Our schools offer a wide range of programming options, from core subjects to advanced placement to vocational training and more. We also offer the Head Start programs to assist young children with communication and school readiness skills as well as an alternate high school program for students outside of a traditional school setting. Top-quality teachers and unique programs keep Sturgeon Public schools on the leading edge of education in Alberta. Hey, SPS Grade 7 students! Want to win a pizza party for your class? 🍕🌲

This October, HYPE is inviting Grade 7 classes across Sturgeon Public Schools to take part in the first Sturgeon Steps Outside Challenge!

The idea is simple. Take lessons outdoors and track your class’s outdoor learning minutes throughout the month. You could read outside, investigate the schoolyard or turn a class discussion into a walk-and-talk. The class with the most outdoor classroom minutes at the end of October will win a Pizza Party Prize Pack!

Want your class to join in? Ask your teacher about taking a lesson outside.

Sturgeon Public Schools is hiring substitute teachers across a variety of grade levels and subjects. With flexible scheduling and opportunities throughout our school communities, each assignment is a chance to support students and keep learning moving forward.

We’re especially looking for substitutes in French Immersion, band and music, CTS, physical education, mathematics, and core subjects.

Happy World Teachers’ Day! 🍎

Teaching is about so much more than what happens in a lesson. It’s about building relationships, encouraging students through challenges, celebrating their successes and creating classrooms where they feel safe, supported and like they belong.

Today, we’re celebrating the people who help keep our schools shining! ✨

On National Custodian Day, we want to recognize the custodians across Sturgeon Public Schools who help make our schools clean, safe and welcoming places to learn and work each day.

Much of what you do happens before the doors open, after students head home and in countless moments throughout the school day, but the difference you make is seen and appreciated.

Sturgeon Public Schools families are invited to join Superintendent Devon Dempsey and our trustees for a Family Meet & Greet on Thursday, October 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Namao School.

This informal, come-and-go evening is an opportunity to put faces to names, get to know one another and build connections across our division.

Come for five minutes or stay for the whole evening. Everyone is welcome!

There will be no classes as we honour the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

🏃 Across the finish line together!

Students from across Sturgeon Public Schools came together last week for our Divisional Cross Country Meet!

Congratulations to every student who hit the course, cheered on their teammates and represented their schools. A big thank you as well to the staff and volunteers who helped make the day possible.

And a BIG congratulations to the Namao School Royales for taking home this year’s Divisional banner! 🏆👏

Please join us in welcoming Wayne Rufiange, Haley Allen and Melissa Camarta to their new roles with Sturgeon Public Schools! 👋

Wayne is returning to SPS after nine years with Pembina Hills School Division and joins Landing Trail School as Principal. Having worked as a school-based leader with all age groups, he is excited to join the Landing Trail team.

Haley has stepped into the role of Early Learning Coordinator with Central Services. An educator in Alberta for the past 15 years, Haley brings extensive experience supporting students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. She is excited to bring her experience and passion for inclusive education to her new role.

Melissa, or Mrs. Melissa as the students know her, can be found at the front desk in the mornings and in the library during the afternoons at Bon Accord Community School. A proud mom of four whose children have all attended BACS, Melissa has been part of the school community for many years and loves supporting its students, families and staff.

We are excited to have Wayne, Haley and Melissa serving our students and school communities. Please join us in congratulating them! 🎉
