I am not sure why some teachers, principals or anyone working with kids in schools just can’t understand this yet - “invisible” illnesses (Crohn’s, Anxiety, ADHD, Chronic Pain, Sensory Processing, Autism etc) & disabilities are REAL. Accommodations level the playing field & allow kids who fight every day to feel “normal”, to achieve things, to fully integrate into “regular classrooms” & to work to their potential. Little tweaks & changes can make the world of difference to them & don’t take that much time or energy... not give them an “advantage” over others. Rigidity and a closed mind are crushing to the soul of these kids and blocking them from full inclusion, reaching their potential and most importantly for them to feel good about themselves and truly believe that they are capable of achieving so much.

World Kindness Day is today. While we shouldn’t need a day to acknowledge kindness or encourage others to be kind, unfortunately in our world today there is so much divisive rhetoric and acts of violence; Racism Sexism, Anti Semitism, and on & on I can go... it is more important than ever to encourage kindness. It doesn’t need to be a grand gesture - a smile, a coffee, letting someone go ahead of you in line, a text out of the blue to say hello or giving of your time. Practise kindness everyday and most importantly teach your children kindness- not only in words but in actions. They are watching you (always) and they are listening to your words.
