AUDITIONS FOR SECTIONAL VIOLIN AND VIOLAS WILL TAKE PLACE JANUARY 12, 2023

Orchestra Toronto is one of Canada’s oldest community orchestras. We are auditioning for sectional violin and violas to start as of January 12, 2023 until our June 4, 2023 concert. This will include three remaining concerts for the season.

BIO: Louis GOLDFORD is a composer of acoustic and mixed music whose works often draw inspiration from auditory illusion, transcription, and psychoanalysis. In 2019 Louis completed his Cursus in computer music composition at IRCAM, supported by the Fulbright Commission in France. He was concurrently a Laureate in Music Composition and resident composer of the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. Upcoming engagements include new pieces for Longleash, Fonema Consort, and residencies at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Académie Voix Nouvelles at Royaumont.

Louis was named the winner of the 2017 Suzhou (Chou’s) Composition Commission. His works have been featured at the Northwestern University New Music Conference (NUNC!2), the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC 2015/2016), June in Buffalo, Contemporary Encounters with Meitar Ensemble (CEME) and with members of Ensemble Modern in Tel Aviv, the Valencia International Performance Academy and Festival (VIPA) in Spain, the Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States National Conference (SEAMUS), the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice (SICPP) at New England Conservatory, the Composit New Music Festival in Italy, and the New York City Electro-Acoustic Music Festival (NYCEMF). Louis has also performed as a saxophonist in Taiwan, Poland, and the United States. In 2014 Louis was the recipient of a Dean’s Prize in Music Composition at Indiana University. Louis completed the Computer Music Workshop (Atelier d’informatique musicale) while studying at the IRCAM Académie and festival ManiFESTE. He was also a finalist in the 2013 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards for his Eric, Rising (2012) for orchestra.

Louis is currently a Dean’s Fellow at Columbia University, where he studies with Georg Friedrich Haas, Zosha Di Castri, Brad Garton, George Lewis, and Fred Lerdahl.

Excited for our Research/Recherche & Cocktails Zoom event tomorrow evening ! Get to know another of our presenters, former President ! 🤩🙌🏽🎶🍷🎹

BIO: Sarah Stapleton is a graduating Music Education student and researcher studying at Wilfrid Laurier University. Her primary research interests include vocal health and pedagogy, inclusive educational practices, and the relationship between singing and the self. Sarah firmly believes that everyone should have access to quality music education, having experienced its transformative power firsthand.

Sarah has recently conducted research in the field of virtual voice education, having been inspired by the resiliency and adaptiveness of voice teachers in her own life through the COVID-19 pandemic. She has additionally conducted a study to investigate the impacts of Body Mapping on Ontario undergraduate vocalists. Her findings contribute to the body of research on music education and vocal pedagogy. Sarah hopes to support current and future teachers through her research surrounding best practices for vocal music education, and aspires to develop a more accessible and inclusive vocal pedagogy throughout her upcoming Master of Teaching at OISE this Fall.

Excited for our Research/Recherche & Cocktails Friday evening! 🍷🎹🎶 Our very own Social Media & Events Executive will present their project & new company ! 👑🌈🎶

BIO: With surprisingly eclectic origins as a premed student and pianist, Mike Fan is an operatic tenor and educator possessing a powerful and flexible voice combined with striking intelligence and passion. Mike brings their unique lived experience as Chinese-Canadian, q***r, and gender non-binary to concert, opera, film, and theatre performances across Europe, Australia, Canada, and USA spanning 5 centuries and 10 languages. Highlights include performing the Canadian premiere of Verdi’s Un giorno di regno; Weill’s Street Scene at Monument-National, North America’s oldest operating theatre; a Finnish International Summer Music Institute; and training at Pesaro’s Rossini Opera Festival. Accolades include a prestigious SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGSM to present a recital showcasing woman composer Pauline Viardot-García.

Mike also enjoys surprising audiences as drag opera diva . As Tanya, Mike has surprised and delighted audiences across Nova Scotia, Québec, and Ontario as Bizet’s Carmen, Tchaikovsky’s Tatiana, and Weill’s Rose Maurrant. They have enjoyed collaborating with q***r organizations such as Rainbow Reels, Halifax Pride, and Guelph Pride. Uniting these passions for classical music as well as marginalized communities, Mike is the artistic director of a groundbreaking new company Opéra Queens. Its mission is to q***rify and gender-bend the classical canon as well as commission new works by talented yet under-represented q***r creators.

Hope you are excited for our Research / Recherche & Cocktails event this Friday! Today we’re excited to introduce one of our presenters...Theodora Ivanova Nestorova, Soprano! 🙌🏽🍷🎶

BIO: Bulgarian-British-American soprano, researcher, and teacher Theodora Ivanova Nestorova was a 2018-19 Fulbright Study/Research Grant Recipient to the University of Music and Performing Arts (Vienna, Austria), studying MA Lied/Oratorio and conducting voice science research. Theodora recently graduated with an MM (Vocal Pedagogy & Music-in-Education Concentration) from the New England Conservatory and a BM (Voice Performance/Musicology) from Oberlin Conservatory in 2018. She looks forward to pursuing an Interdisciplinary PhD at McGill University's Schulich School of Music beginning this fall.

Theodora was awarded the Pan American Vocology Association’s Best Student Presentation Award at the 2020 Virtual Symposium. This June, Theodora will present her original vibrato research at The Voice Foundation’s 50th Anniversary Symposium and the Pan American Vocology Association Symposium this August. Her vibrato metrics report will be featured in PAVA’s July 2021 InFormant Newsletter. Theodora has previously presented at the National Opera Association conference and The Voice Foundation’s New Investigator Research Forum. Theodora maintains an active private voice and language lesson studio.

There will be plenty of time for discussion but if you respond to this email with some specific questions, we can incorporate those into the workshop ahead of time.
