CIRRELT - Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation

The CIRRELT is the result of a merger between two well known research centres: the Centre for Research on Transportation (CRT) and the Network Organization Technology Research Center (CENTOR). These centres were also joined by two groups of researchers active in the field of logistics: Polygistique (École Polytechnique) and the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Logistics Management at UQAM. Esta

blished in 1971 by the UdeM, the CRT has been managed jointly since 1988 by the UdeM, HEC Montréal and École Polytechnique de Montréal. The CRT specialized in quantitative and computer-based methodologies and analyzes as applied to the planning, management and operation of urban, interurban and international passenger and freight transportation systems. In its field, the CRT was the largest university research centre in Canada and one of the three largest in the world. Over the years, the CRT developed an international network for collaboration with the scientific community. It was particularly well known for its methodological advances and for the development of powerful tools in the transportation field (several hundred transportation companies and planning agents currently use products originally developed by the CRT). Founded in 1994, the CENTOR was a recognized research centre since 1996. Over the years the CENTOR became a multi-faculty and multi-universtiy research centre with a research program concentrating on technologies for the design, planning and control of companies and their networks in the perspective of the new economy. There were many major research initiatives associated with the CENTOR, such as the FOR@C Research Consortium in supply chain management in the forest products industry and four research chairs. The CENTOR also had many successful collaborative efforts with industry and was known for developing innovative approaches and tools for the engineering and management of supply networks. In 2001, Polygistique was created as a research group and research unit at École Polytechnique de Montréal in the fields of logistics engineering. Its research covered the methods and technologies in logistics for companies in both manufacturing and services. The NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Logistics Management at UQAM is a multi-disciplinary research group recognized by UQAM since 2006. Its research focuses on advancing models, methods and instruments used for planning logistics and transportation systems and technology transfer. In 2013, in the renewal process of its FRQNT strategic grant application, three new institutional partners have joined the CIRRELT: Concordia University, the École de technologie supérieure and McGill University. Today the CIRRELT regroups the majority researchers from Quebec working in the fields of engineering and managing logistics, company and transportation networks.

Having collaborated closely with Professor Gendron, they drew on his foundational work to showcase a variety of models and algorithms that draw a living picture of the multifaced word of applied combinatorial optimisation.
