Hello everyone,
Arab Arts Montreal began as a desire to teach our kids Arabic language, art, and culture in creative ways that would help them develop a sense of pride in who they are. We created a musical awakening program in Arabic for kids under 6, and it has really taken off, to the point that we had to open a third section last session. Parents have expressed to us how grateful they are for the space to come together and explore their language and culture with their children, and for the children to connect with one another. It has honestly been the highlight of our year.
We are also very invested in creating work opportunities for Arab artists, who struggle in particular ways in this country. We have really beautiful artists in Montreal, and our work helps support them but also build connections between between them and the broader community.
To meet the community’s needs, we are developing three new programs: a Musical Awakening class for more advanced speakers under 6; a storytelling class (to work on language literacy); and a drama class (to work on fluency and ease of expression). We’ve met three amazing artists for these programs and will be showcasing them at our Fundraiser picnic this Saturday. We are really excited to get started.
To do all this, we need your support. We have created a fundraiser to help us raise funds to create a nonprofit (to help us apply for grants and other support) and to launch our new programs. Our long-term goal is to found a center where our community (and our friends and neighbours) can meet, attend programs, and find connection and a welcoming space in this difficult environment.
