Mystical Hope
Presented by the Schulich School of Music of McGill University

The free opening concert of the Montreal Summer Choral Academy, Mystical Hope explores the space where human hope meets mystery and the sacred. Led by Jean-Sébastien Vallée, the Academy’s professional chamber choir invites audiences on a contemplative musical journey where the beauty of the human voice becomes a bridge between earthly experience and the divine.

A concert of the Montreal Summer Choral Academy, The Passing of the Year explores the many ways we experience the passage of time. Through themes of memory, changing seasons, reflection, and remembrance, the program illuminates the fragility and beauty of our shared experiences and the moments that shape us.

Performed by the Academy’s professional chamber choir and conducted by the Academy’s resident conductors under the artistic direction of Jean-Sébastien Vallée, this concert invites audiences on a deeply evocative musical journey.

Venez célébrer le grand concert de clôture de l’Académie chorale d’été de Montréal avec une version spectaculaire de Carmina Burana de Carl Orff comme vous ne l’avez jamais entendue auparavant.

Sous la direction de Jean-Sébastien Vallée, plus de 130 chanteurs et musiciens se réunissent dans l’acoustique grandiose de l’église St. Andrew & St. Paul pour la création mondiale d’un nouvel arrangement pour chœur, orgue et percussions. Portée par l’orgue majestueux de l’église et l’énergie brute des percussions, cette relecture saisissante de l’œuvre emblématique d’Orff promet une expérience musicale immersive, puissante et inoubliable.

Join us for the grand closing concert of the Montreal Summer Choral Academy featuring a spectacular performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana as you’ve never heard it before.

Under the direction of Jean-Sébastien Vallée, more than 130 singers and musicians come together in the magnificent acoustics of The Church of St. Andrew & St. Paul for the world premiere of a new arrangement for choir, organ, and percussion. Driven by the power of the church’s extraordinary organ and the raw energy of percussion, this bold reimagining of Orff’s iconic masterpiece promises an immersive, electrifying, and unforgettable musical experience.

Québec Love: Tiens-toé ben, j’arrive! 🎶

The McGill Jazz Choir, conducted by Lorenzo Somma, a doctoral student in choral conducting at McGill, highlights some of Québec’s most influential artists of the past decades. Echoing, in its title, the world of Robert Charlebois and Diane Dufresne, the program also features the music of major figures such as Leonard Cohen, Oscar Peterson, Dominique Fils-Aimé, and Diane Tell.

Performed by around twenty singers and a rhythm section from the Schulich School of Music, these songs take on a new life — capturing the spirit of Montréal between the St. Lawrence River, swing, jazz harmonies, and Saint-Laurent Boulevard.

Québec Love : Tiens-toé ben, j’arrive! 🎶

L’Ensemble de jazz vocal de McGill, dirigé par Lorenzo Somma, étudiant au doctorat en direction chorale à l’Université McGill, met à l’honneur des artistes incontournables du Québec des dernières décennies. Faisant écho, dans son titre, à l’univers de Robert Charlebois et Diane Dufresne, le programme fait également résonner les chansons de figures marquantes comme Leonard Cohen, Oscar Peterson, Dominique Fils-Aimé et Diane Tell.

Portées par une vingtaine de choristes et une section rythmique d’étudiantes et d’étudiants de l’École de musique Schulich, ces chansons d’ici prennent une nouvelle vie — entre fleuve, swing, harmonies jazz et boulevard Saint-Laurent.
