The startup was founded by Hamed Al-Khabaz and Andrew Lockhead. Al-Khabaz was once the centre of a national news story back when he was a CEGEP student. His college at the time, Dawson College, accused him of “cyber-attacks” when he tried to show them the vulnerability of their student management software’s “sloppy coding.” They expelled the then-18-year-old, who promptly received job offers from tech giants around the world. BCF Ventures will earmark $500,000 for 10 Canadian startups starting this year, though they are open to American and European companies with Canadian operations. The money is coming from the 70 partners that work at BCF, and will have to be re-approved every year that the program runs.

Spaces cited a report by Business Insider, which ranks Montreal as one of the most high-tech cities in the world, as one of the reasons to bring its collaborative workspaces to the city.
